(that's why in the beginning everyone was saying Lihua was more favorable; it's also why sis was so worried about her son dying bc she could also lose her position). to truly secure her position the concubine would have to be the mother of the emperor and that would make her the "mother" of the nation, in other words, the most powerful woman in the country.... I wouldn't be surprised if Roshi is onto something with his theory at the end regarding Gyoukyou, but instead of her taking over (because this world is so patriarchal) she would have to first bear a son and make sure he was named crown prince. then she'd be free to murk the emperor lol

As a person with freckles I was slightly taken aback by Maomao using fake ones to pose as unattractive I think they suit her . It's interesting I remember a couple years ago actually pretty recently there was a trend where people were putting on fake freckles in a positive light I guess eye of the beholder and all that.

Women would literally bind their chest to make it appear smaller. Most of the concubine clothing was tight around that area to create a flattening/binding effect.

If it wasn't the case, women wouldn't be able to get muscular. It's not that unrealistic, even if it is impossible to create complete immunity, it is possible to create a resistance to some poisons. It's called "mithridatism". Also in the novel, at the first poison testing, she does think to herself that she couldn't do anything against a slow poisoning. Later she also says that the good point to gaining weight is that it will give her more time to notice if she is poisoned

The possibility is there but the need for complete political dominance and a son of royal blood young enough to postpone your dethroning would be ideal.
