The ruby pendant on that one suit of armor they kept showing was the same one the general gave stark, the one he said was his family crest and let the bearer do whatever they want in the city. So it seems to be implied that that armor that resisted aura is his family member. Probably his son

That's the whole point, they both lost because they keep underestimating them because to them they're "just humans". On paper, both Lugner and Linie are stronger than Fern and Stark. However, Lugner didn't take into account how fast Fern could cast spells and Linie, while she was able to imitate Eisen's techniques, didn't have the power to back it up and land a finishing blow.

These demons are some clowns. Lugner literally could have hisokaed fern but was so prideful he wanted to monolog. Linie was cool she was giving stark the business but she never tried to finish him but maybe she couldn't but she still could've tried to guillotine him. The video game reference was so accurate I hate when people spam the same thing and all you can do is block but it got the job done. I don't think stark calling her strikes weak is fair like sir your shoulder meat is missing and you were tooted up a second ago but still he's definitely a tank and his lightning strike was cool as hell I thought his hair turned yellow for a second there zenitsu ⚡. Lastly the biggest clown aura this lady the one who has been slaughtering your kind forever pulls up and is sidestepping and is showing zero emotion while you continue to antagonize her about her man lady you're done👀!

Linie probably WAS talking about Stark being defensive. But I think it's more on her saying the fight is dragging on because Stark isn't attacking. Lugner told her to finish Stark and help him but she actually couldn't. If Stark was attacking, she'd get more openings. But he was dodging and blocking and just backing off. Lugner underestimated Fern because he had more mana and overall skill, but came to realize she's got casting speed for days. Linie overestimated her own technique and didn't know that strength-wise, Stark is in another level. Bro just straight-up tanked it instead.

She's not, She's talking to stark. It's clearer in the manga. Linie mutters that Lügner is being selfish and not taking into consideration how difficult Stark's defensive style is to deal with. Stark is a BEAST, it's just that his whole life up until he encounters the dragon he's raised by the strongest Warrior in the world, an impossible thing to beat, even by the time he leaves. That's why he's still a coward. He's had no fights to actually gauge his power against normal foes. Literally just the Dragon and now Linie since his master. So he's just finding out that he is strong. His holding back and being defensive is all he can do until he gets more confidence, and then once he get the experience, he may catch up to or surpass Eisen - in his old age - Eisen is still WAY past his prime... and being a dwarf that probably lives longer than humans by a few hundred years Stark may never catch up to Prime Eisen.

I love the detail of Fern's spells, while chasing Lügner, not just breaking through the castle walls with him or his magic, but exiting through a window. Fern's magic doesn't destroy unnecessarily unlike the demons. And her magic is controlled and fast enough to not just blindly follow the target but make detours and still catch up.

I'm re-reading the manga right now. Right now, i can fairly say that the anime is superior than the manga. Because the anime has all the story and emotional elements found in the manga. But anime has expanded the fight choreography further. Fights in Frieren manga are simplistic at best.

I think 1st cour will end at episode 12 +3 on ep. 1, with grand total of 15 episodes. With 2nd cour having 13 episodes.

I love how a lot of the storytelling is via action too, not just dialogue. The whole fight with Linie, you saw that her blows were actually heavy as hell: she busted through the castle wall, every attack she was making even the blocked ones were making craters. So it wasn't that she was weak- its just that Stark is tanky asf. The eyeball cut scene was a beautiful way to show this too. She had a direct hit on his eye (a supposed weak spot) and it legit looked like she had cut it- but nope Stark ate it no problem. Mans really out here holding himself back due to lack of confidence.
