All of these are somewhat answered in the movie besides the Sheera one. The father showed her the moms letter as a result of their last scene right after Riley gets hurt and he asks her to be honest with him and Mia in turn says he's been hiding something about her moms death from her. For riley, what I understood based on how the spirit was introduced "He wants you pretty boy, he'll split ya, he'll split ya" is pretty much self explanatory. Grouped with the whole "They'll wanna stay" warning. The hand, if it wasnt clear, was an allegory for drug use but even that aside it'd be one thing if they were messing with the hand at the party and then he stabbed his brother killed himself but since there was no direct connection to the hand and the death at that moment, it isnt unbelievable .. and again substance abuse allegory

I’m my opinion it’s a decent horror movie with a good theme. But definitely not a “a food horror movie”. The hand itself is never explained, but maybe that was the point. The fathers character was useless until the last 15mins, but maybe that was the point. There are Plot holes upon plot holes. -Makes no sense why the dad randomly chose to show her the letter conveniently when she is being tormented by spirits. -So the kid has been seeing ghosts, and then stabbed his brother and himself in front of people at a party but for some reason people were still messing with the hand? Idk kinda weak -Sheera was right about them not strapping the kid down in the hospital. Surely that isn’t going to ruin their budget goals. -I wish they kinda explained more why they were fucking with Riley. Like I’d assume that these are spirits in hell entertaining themselves. Or possibly that they are spiteful towards the living and weren’t fond of themselves being recorded and messed with. Idk man. I don’t want to nitpick but I wish the movie could have been 30mins longer. Could have cleared up a lot of these issues

With Daniel I feel she just craved someone’s presence instead of actually wanting to be with him. (Long Comment) I was in a similar position as Riley & it wasn't even a family friend, it was my sister who let me do it (and she's not even weird or fucked up & she has her shit together). Teens being irresponsible & letting other teens get fucked up for shits n giggles already happens a lot, so this being "unrealistic" is untrue. Maybe it's unrealistic because you personally haven't seen it? If this existed, there would absolutely be people doing it, people already thrill-seek & are attracted to anything deemed supernatural or scary & dangerous. There are many stories of children & teens taking drugs or alcohol once because of peer pressure or just out of curiosity & then die that same day or be fucked up for life. Sometimes it's the family members who allowed it too. Adding ghosts that still get you high though doesn't really change much imo. Mia is as normal as everyone in the movie, even Jade let them bring it in her house & had no problem with her friend & boyfriend do it despite them all still being underage except Daniel & maybe Joss & Hayley. And don't think this is me saying Mia did nothing wrong or something, of course she has fault, I'm not a dumbass. I just find it weird that there are people that act like she's practically a demon when literally everybody else allowed it to happen like she was the authority in the room. The two people WHO KNEW SOMEONE STABBED THEIR BROTHER & KILLED THEMSELVES YET STILL ALLOWED PEOPLE TO USE IT & THEN WENT OVER THE TIME WITH MIA get less blame than Mia who just thought it was the bees knees & didn't even pester them to do it?? Overrated doesn't equal hate, but a lot of people can't separate their tastes from their criticisms, so many people will say something is bad or overrated just because they personally didn't like it. Not saying that's you, but a lot of people struggle with that. If there weren't any good horrors coming out this year, duh this one would be considered the best of the year? No one said it's the horror movie of the decade or of all time. I would say that even if it had released along more competent ones, people would still like it a lot even if it wouldn't be the absolute best. Personally, I wouldn't say it's overrated, considering I completely forgot it came out months ago & I didn't hear anyone talk about it (I have other reasons, but this comment's already too long). I guess since the spirits can read your mind/thoughts, like with the boyfriend and how his spirit exposed he wasn't attracted to the Rileys sister. I wish Joss and Hayley got more consequences, because even tho they were gonna stop at 50 seconds with Riley, they still allowed him to do it after his sister said no. Also in general brought the demons among them lmao, hopefully if there is a sequel they will get more story because they were interesting characters.

This movie was tough. I wanna have sympathy with Mia. Grieving, dad is too (but kids don't get that, understandably). She wanted her friend to hear her out, about the Kangaroo. She had teenage boy on the brain, then mentioned "why didnt you call {kangaroo 911?}". Implying there were choices, other than mercy killing. Reflected again, kinda, with dad. Mia just wanted some emotional support, in that moment. Fatalist, assuming its everyone end w/ no hope to recover: from her relationship w/ her dad, her best friend, ex, the brother, the kangaroo. Mia was in despair, grieving, "alone". None of her actions were justified, but i can understand how she took this path. The only real change, I would've had for her, is never touch the hand. Like, can I blame the dad? If she knew the truth of her mom, "maybe she wouldve never held the hand", or fallen for the lies. But, then Im blaming the dad for not getting over the loss of his wife. It hard for me to "blame" anyone. With how much drugs/drinking, were mentioned before the "hand party", may be a reference to how addiction after a heavy loss/grief can spiral much more rapidly. While both, Mia and Lil Bro, went over time limit, Mia wasnt recovering (i suspect from the grief and Isolation). Where as, the brother, while "too young" and held on wayyy more than 90 secs, who didnt have any obvious trauma and stresses (compared to Mia at least?), was actually recovering (from the possession). I feel for Mia, she was grieving, vulnerable, lacking support (had friends and family, but she probably needed additional outside support). However, a choice is a choice. She was taken advantage of, by "evil forces". Crazy how it can parallel the (some extreme) reality of grief. Often due to lack of resources or support. And sometimes, outside factors that have more Malicious intentions, preying on the vulnerable. Cycle repeats. I wanna believe, the ending led to the other hand. Easy Sequel setup (if it was).

Just watched this the other day, was definitely a solid movie overall that didn't really falter at any points. Worth checking out again just to see Lupa sweating bullets. Horror genre has been kinda weak this year besides this and a couple others, hope there are some good releases for October.
