He went from being oppressed to being an oppressor and treated the accomplished Barbies like they were bimbos. The Kens didn't replace the women's careers but continued doing what they were doing. In a real world their community would've crumbled quickly. Barbie kept giving Ken signs without even being really mean that she saw him as a friend but he kept pushing even up until the end. She valued her own time and her girl time. He made his life revolve around Barbie. His actions were malicious right down to taking control of her home which isn't even his. She never took anything of his, especially not anything he wasn't willing to give to her. All she wanted was a life that was for her and not be forced into a box (literally) or into a relationship just because that's what some people wanted. For some folks being in a relationship is what a woman should strive for and to put her aspirations aside, especially true in older but living generations and even in today's society some people have such backwards thinking.

I even cried at the kart where the old lady that Barbie met when she was trying to escape to building revealed herself as the creator of Barbie. Such a great movie. My favorite thing about this movie is how absolutely real Classic Barbie's journey is. The feminism stuff is poignant and a critical part of the discussion, but I like that it's not entirely about that. The thing that really resonated was her crisis of existentialism. How she realized her entire existence is based around marketing something to sell and finding her self and her needs despite it. And the rules of both her and our own Earth society revolve around profit and capitalism, artificially creating the issues we all suffer from, both subconsciously and intentionally. We tend to value not only others, but ourselves in terms of utility. She realizes she doesn't need a purpose to just be and that hit hard. Also, Mattel did create merchandise for this movie and I can't tell if that misses the point of it or if it's completely on-brand.

Really liked this movie. I liked how they had criticism for either system going too far while keeping it mostly comedic, and further than that, they sort of pushed the conversation into being more about individuality outside and inside those systems rather than just saying, "Hey, this system is better," and said, "Hey, not everybody is defined by a system and sometimes we should focus on ourselves and what makes us us." It was cute. Ryan Gosling definitely stole the show for me, though.
