It's one of the best Star Wars anythings, and is honestly just a legit great scifi show that works on It's own even if you had no clue it was in the SW universe; it references and mentions things so lowkey and nothing from outside the show really affects the understanding of its plot or themes. The post-credit sequence is really the only overt connection that requires "outside reading". Just a solid well written smart scifi show about rebellion and oppression with great characters, period.
