Except if someone has "fun" being a troll, they're just an ass. It's definitely more insecure to only feel good when saying negative things rather than being positive or defending others. A lot of trolls act fake right with ridiculous opinions or only comment for replies (like this one) and being too immature to understand no one else is laughing. Edit: This next part is a response to the below reply, but I didn't want to take up more space with another reply, so I just edited this. Trolls seem to "forget" that strangers they talk to online aren't their friends, and there's a massive difference between being an ass to a stranger and joking with a friend. But trolls don't know the difference between reality and virtual space. They assume, I guess because they don't know what real life friends are, that you can be an ass to anyone and it's just "friendly". Sadly, trolls love to act like they win even though they get heavily ratio'd. The worst kind of trolls are those on Patreon, who pay money just to be an ass or complain. See example (most likely) below.
