A lot of misconceptions this episode, toji isnt as bad as yall make him out to be, he knew to run when something seemed off with gojo but his pride that he thought he threw away kept him from doing so. Also with gojos infinity it is true that it passively detects threats and is always on now, but tojis cursed tool inverted spear of heaven to forcibly stops infinity from functioning, so he can still hit him. Also toji went back to his old self when his wife (megumis mom) passed, also she was the one you saw holding megumi in the flashback, she was everything to toji and changed him for the better, when she disappeared he went right back to his old life, he also did care for megumi although they don't give us that impression this arc.

I somewhat agree with you, Bradley. Everyone jumping down your throat is perhaps too much of a fan to even stop and acknowledge what it is you're actually saying. I feel the runback would have benefited from a little time interim, yeah. Revenge loses its meaning when its instantaneous and stakes are lowered when the power scaling jumps up and down so sporadically. Even taking a couple of days in between the two fights would have done several things: 1. Geto would have more reason to feel like a failure as he stews over his best friend being dead and their sweet, innocent charge dying a well. A few days as opposed to a few hours makes a big difference because the adrenaline wears off and Geto is then left with the emptiness. That longer, more horrible guilt would further establish his eventual capitulation to his darker thoughts. 2. In terms of fears about stretching the timeline, realistically Geto could have taken a while to hunt down the correct star agency cult building that had the girl's corpse because, as stated in the manga/episode, there were several in the country. That and he himself was on death's door and had to be healed up by their classmate Shoko. Some time in between would not have hurt the sense of urgency, I don't think, and would have only added to Geto's feelings of despair as each location turns out to be a dead end. His peers and teachers wouldn't be able to get through to him or slow him down as he starts imploding over it all. What's really cool is this could all be covered in relatively the same amount of panels/minutes in an episode with proper framing/editing. At most, only a half-episode of content more would have made all of this feel a lot heavier emotionally. 3. By the time Geto does manage to get to the right location, he wants to just wreck everything out of desperation and grief - timing his arrival alongside a belated celebration by the cult (so we still get the fundamental clapping/kill them scene) - but he suddenly sees a two-or-three-day dead Gojo holding her body. The shock is even greater for Geto, as is the melancholic sense of relief. He then learns Gojo had tracked down Toji and killed him just minutes prior. What's interesting about that is now the LOCATION for the toji/gojo rematch would then have been different, and I personally would have been interested to see this callous, selfish, trash-dad Toji actually spying on his kid from afar when Gojo pulls up. It would also make more sense as to why Gojo would feel a need to help raise Megumi, seeing the boy whom he orphaned nearby. More stakes for the antagonist now means better, heightened drama. I honestly think the mangaka handled it fairly well and all this is said with the benefit of hindsight, but like you said, it could have been a little more nuanced and better thought out so that there was some actual WEIGHT to everything. I don't know if reverse curse techniques can realistically kick in at such a slowed rate, so that may be a hole in my preferred narrative, but it's a thought. Gojo was honestly a real boring character to me (I'm in the vast minority, I know) during the events of Season 1, no two ways about it, but I genuinely like him here as a more flawed individual. That and I love Geto both before and after his turn to darkness. It's the strength of his character and the quality of Toji's antagonist that makes this arc so endearing in my opinion.

Many of the comments have explained why the people were clapping in the after credits scene - but it's also important to make clear that Geto has not "yet" actually flipped in ideology. We see him literally expending effort to stick to an ideal - namely that there has to be a "point" to doing things especially* for jujutsu sorcerers. Gojo is the one who is completely cool with massacring the ignorant members (and we get why obviously) while Geto is still sticking to a strict set of principles! I think JJK is really cool in that Geto's change is not so immediate and clear cut. Right when you expect it to be "time" for him to become "evil" we see him basically tell us we are wrong.

I think the coolest bit about this is the deconstruction of the first meeting of Sun Wukong and The Buddha they did here. When they met, The Buddha humbled Sun Wukong and made him submit to him. Here, Toji is Sun Wukong, and Gojo the freshly enlightened Buddha. That's part of why Toji calls himself a monkey since he can't use Jujutsu. He was basically a mortal playing in the face of gods, until he was humbled by The Honored One. Obviously, Geto remembered that comment and turned it into a slur lol

And no, Geto would not kill any of them because he just said to Gojo that there is no point in doing that when the real culprits already ran away. The people at the end were clapping because of Riko's death remember they worship Tengen and Riko was seen as an impurity so they didn't want for her to assimilate. The reason Geto wasn't able to take Toji's curse was because Toji had already established a master- servant relationship with the curse so in order for Geto to take it he would have to kill Toji first (this is the same reason Geto needed to kill Yuta to take Rika in JJK0). The curse that almost cut Toji's ear is actually based off a real Japanese legend called "Kuchisake-onna" I recommend looking it up it's pretty cool. Also the chain Toji used in his fight against Gojo is actually a cursed tool and it's technique is that it can extend infinitely as long as you don't let you opponent see the other end

Also for clarification Toji although born into the Zenin clan was outcasted/defected and took his BM name Fushigaro which also meant that Megumi was probably born outside of the clan’s knowledge(or probably something more nuanced like they didn’t have rights to him since Toji defected i forget), and he simply didn’t want Megumi to be in their clutches. Toji could actually care about him but in his own twisted way(referring to his flashback questioning himself about not caring about anyone else). Bc there’s definitely a bit more nuance like the Zenins being a more combat/power oriented clan where they respect strength and your cursed technique(i.e stem root of Makis discrimination) and Toji being outcasted himself didnt want Megumi to have to go through that. S/N: They didn’t want Tengen to die or lose control but they worship him as he is and felt like the ritual was gonna corrupt/change him which is why they sought the Vessels death. And they were happy bc they ultimately achieved their goal plus they’re just delusional fanatics hence the applause.

You’re correct about what Geto said but that’s not why he couldn’t absorb Toji’s cursed spirit. He would have succeeded but Toji was to quick with slicing him up, that’s why it failed. The spirit isn’t ‘contracted’ to Toji. It’s essentially free

Toji actually really loved Megumi and you'll see it again later in the story too. (slight lore spoilers but not really important) He experienced decades of abuse at the hands of the Zenin family for having no cursed energy. When he met his wife though, he was changing and actually had the potential to become a good father(that flashback of him holding Megumi was around that time) but then she died. That broke him and he went back to being a murderer. That's why he said "I thought you discarded that pride and wouldn't respect anyone anymore", because after that loss it pushed him over the edge. He knew that he wouldn't be a good father for Megumi too so he distanced himself from him. At this point in the story it was literal years since he's seen his son. His story is really sad. There's a bit more to it but this should serve as a summary

Those people from the Star Religion are a cult. They worship jujutsu sorcerers in general in addition to their god Tengen Sama who is also a jujutsu sorcerer. All of them aren't sorcerer's so they see those like Gojo like divine beings. But yes, they were mad clapping because a high school girl got shot in the head like a bunch of seals. You notice that Gojo and Getou are reversing their position on their roles as sorcerers among non-sorcerers? Being the strongest Gojo sees as the weak as just holding him back as seen in the 1st episode where he is flippant about following the rules to protect the "comfort" and state of mind of non-sorcerers, as evident when he didn't care to put up the barrier. He saw it as pointless when it's just more efficient to get the job done whatever way is easiest. Getou on the other hand sees doing those sorts of things as a priority as a matter of fact and takes those rules right out of hand as granted, and he rationalizes it that it's for the greater good, but doesn't really know why himself. Now they're both thinking "why are we doing this?" and "this system sucks," as in following the rules of the Jujutsu higher ups.
