Johnwick must be joking...fma really bro

Helpy

had it not been askellad, sure, the encounter would have ended peacefully and thorfinn would have learned that lesson early. the fact that askellad played dirty was what tipped the scales of fate to the worse. that being said, its always harder to start pushing a cart, but once its going it becomes easier, same as what happened here. the start was rough, but now everyone else thorfinn talks to understands the meaning of being a true warrior who doesn't need a weapon, much much quicker.

I VisiBomb I

KINO SAGA

MCPEPP

"This the arc Ja Morant needs" Roshi is a fool lol

Jordan Hackley

You guessed wrong bozo 😂 & fmab is the best & 100x better than this bs

Johnwick

Lemme guess. You're 16 and Bleach is the best anime of all time. Edit: I'm gonna keep it but I gotta remind myself that this series as a whole is not oriented to kids. That's not even a dig. I truly don't think you can appreciate this until you get older.

Saikonakoshi

damn your take is as trash as dbz

William Morris

I just caught up on this a few days ago, and the line about Olmar figuring out that he doesn't want to fight so quickly actually stuck out to me a lot. That could have been Thorfinn in another environment where he had people to show him a different way. Thorfinn was for Olmar what Thors would have been for Thorfinn, somebody who has experienced violence and is able to show him a different way. Really underrated exchange imo

Beagle

Slow ass

Luhbabytay

they should also watch a viking show called "vikings"

ok

don't take it to heart rayman we appreciate you pointing it out regardless ... even though the creator himself came for your neck

ok

It means they made him lame as fuck for no reason

Tressk

Leme guess ya think this episode is peak also 😂😂😂

Johnwick

I just caught up to the manga today and let me tell you that this season really is just the TIP of the peak iceberg

Jordan

Its going to be very hard to top this season, I hope next season is just as good I would like to see Thorfinn make it home to his sister but at this point I dont think thats going to happen now.

Carve it. Carve it into your flesh. Carve it into the land. Carve it into the sea. Carve it into your spoils. Carve it into your enemies. Carve it. Carve it. Carve what you feel into me. Carve that encounter into me. - Vinland Saga

A1_MiLFshAkE

What does that mean?

A1_MiLFshAkE

I cried.

FlorYA19 Arauz

???? Just say you watched this show with the screen off

EZ

again yall pushing the agenda of me being angry isnt working, i know you cant form an opinion of your own and simply reading and comprehending is beyond you people but telling me to touch grass is funny 😂 good try tho fat boy

Lupa is Dadi

I will never understand how angry someone acts about something as simple as a misunderstanding, you need to go outside right now and touch some grass

RainSD

Same team, they just under mappa now

Aneesa

Damn, they really gave Thorfinn the teen Gohan treatment smh

Tressk

We gotta find something to bash your head with somehow

Deathbound300

The attention to detail is one intuition I envy.

Deathbound300

This really one of my favorite adaptations, never thought mappa was gonna hit the same as Wit but they delivered

Noel Cruz

Askeladd when talking about his viking father said 'he was not a beautiful man'. Askeladd saw in Canute someone who was not like him or his father or any other viking. And now Canute calls Thorfinn a beautiful man. I really love the writing in this show

Greg Harrison

i believe cannute real life counter was such a successful king and beloved that the english at the time were willing to embrace danish and let go of their langauge but sadly his successors were not him

sol jam

I teared up when Canute called Thorfinn a beautiful man, honestly think this was my favourite episode

Leanne Stephenson

Thorfinn saying Canute is a great man for the whole idea of saving the vikings and now in this episode we see Canute saying Thorfinn is a beautiful man was such a great moment. Snake telling his name hits hard because he abandoned his name because of his tough past, Thorfinn not only influenced Canute and Olmar to be a better person he also did that to Snake. What a beautiful payoff

Knuckle's hair

but like, i dont get why out of a whole 25 minute reaction yall pick out one tiny part we missed and act as if we didnt watch any of it? like we talk over the whole entire episode and make up headcanon

YaBoyRoshi

If yall were wondering who the flowers Einar placed were for and couldnt remember all the characters: 5 flowers for: >His father who died in Aethelred's War >His mother and sister who died during Sweyn's War >and 1 each for Arnheid and her lost child.

Bad Karma

chance*

YaBoyLoshi

i feel sorry for the people who didn’t give this season a chy

YaBoyLoshi

that random ass Ja Morant shot lmfao!!!!!

darnay mayberry

I don't really understand why you expected them to care more about snake and the guards (the guards who also tried to kill them for fun) over arnheid and her husband who are both slaves that want freedom and they don't have a deal like thorfinn and einar do. At most they have pure respect for snake but they don't really know his story and why wouldn't they sympathize with fellow slaves?

Team Skull Grunt B

they didnt bro. watch that part again they literally didnt put 2 and 2 together. ive been chill? only you reaching talking bout “its a show” no shit sherlock 😂

Lupa is Dadi

Next episode god I've been waiting for this lol

Luffy_77

They said that before Thorfinn said thank you lol, they know. This is a TV show homie chill out lol

Vincent S Deluca

And people really out here saying this season is trash lol

Vincent S Deluca

yes

Oliver

Y’all should watch a Viking show called “The Last Kingdom”

Savage2fresh 60

The carve it scene was like the first episode but had a different meaning

CentipedeKid

I think it’s safe to say Peakland saga is in debate of greatest anime OAT storytelling wise

Kane

i appreciate the well thought out response devoid of any aggression. i actually do agree with what you’re saying too; i guess maybe i just wanted more time/screen time to move that plot device forward

mpthree

thank you for being respectful lol

mpthree

how yall not put it together that thorfinn told them to take the credit? so bro would say “thank you” for no reason?! yall struggling to keep up

Lupa is Dadi

Yeah the one they got the Iceland's embassy to translate

Skebaba

Hey roshi, im not sure if anyone else pointed this out already but canutes dad has the same va as yhwach from bleach which was cool little thing I caught on recently.

Chocolatedude100

man yall be talking over the dialogue and missing info. Olmar taking the credit was Thorfinn's idea, he said "Thank you." when Snake told him he gave Olmar the credit. Snake even asked Thorfinn "Are you sure you're okay with this?"

rayman

ja morant catching a stray lol

Jelly123354363562345

disagree but your opinion is valid

Brian Estepa

Olmar wasnt just out there workin, he was workin with the chick he had been banging from before.

NecDW4

“and this is how Florida was founded“😂😂😂😂

Sentinel Kab

Farmland soo tuff

Nick

i mean their whole arc was used to reinforce the cruelty of the times and that arnheid and garder were victims of circumstance. Thorfinn seeing what happened to them definitely influences what he said in this episode. And that arc directly leads to thorfinn questioning his oath to swear off violence as its immediately challenged when he has to fight snake. And all that leads the actions he's taken these past 3 episodes. So it seems pretty impactful even if you aren't necessarily invested in their characters.

ayyyy

Is Thorfinn Jesus ?

Keenan Cummins

did anyone else feel like arnheid’s arc/involvement was less impactful than was intended to be? she spent the majority of the season as the significant other/baby momma for ketil and the object of affection/obsession for einar with little to no growth whatsoever until her husband appeared, where for some reason thorfinn and einar decide to side with them instead of the people they have gotten along with/thrived with (snake and the guards) for the last 3 years? i loved the season but felt like her and her husbands involvement was pushed on me and i personally had zero emotional attachment to them, ESPECIALLY their child, which kept being brought up in flashbacks even though he had about 10 seconds of screentime/mentioning. i just feel like it was a plot device designed to get them to want to leave, when they absolutely didn’t need them to feel that way.

Mike Peebles

i teared up when they showed Leif bc this man spent his whole life trying to find his friends son and bring him home and that look was he saying "he good now" to Thorss

Delinda Arts

Holy shit I didn't even realize! Thank you for mentioning this

Thiivi

Carve this series into my soul.

HessianX

Lol Roshi you stupid. If anyone can change Ja Morant it definitely would be someone like Thorfinn or Uncle Iroh.

Devin B

Basically Canute somewhat adopted Thorfinn's ideology of violence not being the first method and applied it to his situation of getting more finances. Before he wanted to keep his army around despite how much money it took to keep them around but now he decided to disband some of them to have just enough to surround him while saving money even if it meant less people protecting him. In the end it worked out for him cause it got the people to trust him more.

Devin B

True. If anything I would say he was deluded into wanting to be a warrior because he thought it would be more exciting than taking over the farm. Plus being a warrior was considered a high honor amongst men so he thought he could make a name for himself by being one but reality hit him quick.

Devin B

this is art

Sebastian Ayala

Yup didn’t catch on at first but that’s it

this is one long ass username

Because he wanted the acceptance of his brother Thorgil and to rebel against his dad, not because he actually thought it was the right thing to do. In truth you could ALWAYS tell he wasn’t about it. For example you can very clearly tell that Thorfinn is about the pacifist life, it’s not an act. With Olmar it was all an act.

this is one long ass username

Thorfinn the GOAT and Vinland saga the GOAT

L.C.

One of their scenes is gonna be so god damn good. I'm trying to be as obscure as I can, but you know which scene I mean when I say it's between thorfinn and Sigurd, it was fairly recent in the manga, and she let's her hair down in it.

Dylan

Yes Mappa did pick up this show but, the real team that should be praised is the Twin Engine team. They animated season 1 back in Wit studio and also season 2 in Mappa. Mappa did the right thing for sticking with the same team but all respect should be given to the Twin Engine team and the director of this show.

Mirrorline

you're beautiful thorfinn. -plays james blunt- this episode was done very well. i dont know why they went with canute just being like you know what man ima head out but hey it was nicely done. very good arc

KeYo

that ja morant joke was hilarious

SnailSpray

That ja morant joke killed me LMAO.

Derreck

Olmar was all about wanting to be a warrior like Thorgil but until recently he found out that being a warrior isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Devin B

One the few anime’s that does not have one bad episode

Fizzy

Disrespectful, dude saves the whole farm and they've still got him sleeping in a barn

Aaron Gauntt

it was literally the same staff as WIT lmao

Killjoy

no way. we got vinland saga on monday les gooo

SnailSpray

You know it's a good episode when Lupa is just *silent* for the most of it.

Daniel Robb

The journey just began, friends!

Aiscrim

If they keep the adaptions this crisp and accurate I'll wait. So many great manga had shitty adaptions that getting a good one is worth the wait.

Dale Cooper

I love the end of this arc.

Joel Braaten

Baltic sea arc bouta hit like a mf

Oscar

Btw at 8:30, that's very much Askeladd's influence on Thorfinn i think. The cocky "crossed arms, head slightly crocked to the side" pose and basically telling Canute, the King, to do his fucking job properly and not create more hassle for him. It's way more Askeladd than Thors. I think that's why Canute asks "who did you take after?" right after it. Obviously his core beliefs and majority of his entire charatcer are all from Thors, but there's defo still some "Askeladd" in there that comes out from time to time.

Shockzz1234

I'm just going to say it. This is one of the best seasons of an anime ever.

Dkai

PEAKLAND SAGA

Renan

You know, you point something out. Thorgil has no honour. He abandoned his family because they surrendered.

Daniel Robb

Snake lied about Olmar being the reason that Canute withdrew to cover for Thorfinn, not to take away from him. Basically so the farm can start over again with the least amount of internal conflict as possible (which it has enough of already). Also Olmar never wanted to be like Thorgil, he was always scared of that life and was pressured into it.

this is one long ass username

Was it really 2019 season 1 came out?? Daaaaamn

Daniel Robb

That'll prob be next episode, I think next season we'll be actually going to Vinland.

Daniel Robb

We are all nothing in this world without each other <3

Daniel Robb

Who's cutting onions?

Storm King

This was one of the most beautiful anime episodes I have ever seen in my entire life.

RBGTalk

Probably one of the best season in all of anime

TheHud257

I can't wait for the Baltic War arc comin' up. >.<

BlueSummer

That poem was the poem that appeared at the start of episode 1 of this season.

Henrique I. Pereira

for those in the know Hild and Sigurd are the GOATs

Friendly Elites

Such an amazing conclusion to this arc, the entire inclusion of the 'Carve It' scene was just so incredibly well done and it was honestly something even better than the manga's end of arc narration since it actually showed you the battered worn hands of every person working on that farm and the toll it takes on you to live that life just as much as it does to any warrior. Next arc is going to be so so good once its animated, both of my favorite characters in the series get introduced during it.

Friendly Elites

Vinland has got to be one of my fav series’ ever. And it’s one of the few occasions I think where it keeps to its quality throughout its entirety, and even into the next few arcs. I just hope we don’t have to wait another 4 years for the next season

Thunter

An absolute masterpiece of an adaptation. I really liked how they brought pack the poem from the opening episode and completely changed the context of it. In the first episode the poem felt violent. It felt like a declaration that the only way to make one's mark on the world was through strength and violence. When we see it again at the end it feels more like a poem about how we as people leave a mark on the world and on each other through compassion.

Magical Drinking

Thorfinn refusing the reward from Olmar was also due to the reparations needed to pay to the familes, Thorfinn knew that despite his goal requiring money the people on the farm needed it to rebuild more than he did.

Friendly Elites

Ngl, I forgot this was Mappa. I didn't notice the CGI that much. It was like Chainsaw man but more drawings were used even and less rotos.

earthphoenix7068

its the same staff so they could have lol

BERMY

I wonder what next season is going to be about? They still have to meet up with thorfins family.

Oscar Barcelo

WIT could not have done this season the absolute justice that mappa has and that’s a FACT

MWS

This has honestly turned into one of my favourite ever seasons of anime. I read the manga a while ago and had genuinely forgot some scenes. The manga IMO just keeps getting better from here on out. Incredibly excited to see future seasons animated. By the time this is completed it will be an all-timer.

DomClare

This felt like a finale, just beautiful man

Lawlach

“Now I gotta do all this shii by myself”💀💀

Chris Kringle

And Thorgil literally just vanished - and was never heard from again. Such honor, much wow. About the farm and their remaining wealth, one might say: Another W for Sverkel the goat! Furthermore this was the first time in the anime Einar and Thorfinn called each other brother, whereas in the manga this had happened before on a few occasions. But this episode really managed to enhance the chapter in the manga, it was a sight.

Hans Wurst

That ending sequence killed me. So beautiful

Jr

I just finished the episode. Roshi is absolutely correct. That episode was beautiful.

Earphone Jack

So, no Mashle episode 9? 😭

Bree

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode basically adapted all of chapters 98 and 99. Additionally this episode also adapted the promise Einar and Thorfinn made at Arnheid’s grave to build a land of peace in Vinland, which was originally depicted in chapter 93 (i.e. around the equivalent of the end of episode 20 of this season). Besides the standard shortening of dialogue, there weren’t any other major differences between this episode and the manga. Though in the manga Thorfinn’s face during his goodbye to Snake, Pater, Olmar, and old master Sverkel was depicted as far more puffy and swollen (adding a tone of levity that I am guessing the studio felt would be more jarring/clashing in the medium of anime). There was also some additional narration specifying what happened to Ketil’s farm. Basically Ketil retired from being head of the farm having “lost his bountiful appetite for work” (i.e. he became sad and depressed), and the manga makes it more clear he became blinded in his right eye due to the wound he suffered. Olmar stepped up to permanently become head of the farm, and paid sizable reparation to the families of every man who was wounded or killed in the battle. Said payments cost Ketil’s farm half of its land and wealth. There was also an additional joke of Sverkel telling Snake he had to learn to use a hoe before he could use the plow.

Theo Vorster

“You're a good man with a good heart. And it's hard for a good man to be king.” Feel like this defines Canute’s progression at first with becoming a tyrant king for a while and then eventually turning around after seeing Thorfinn and becoming better off.

Moroni W

Mash?

That really is the best way to describe this episode. Beautiful.
