She refuses to admit her powerlessness in specific situations. even if it was clearly shown she was powerless in those situations. Iris, she'll most likely get over it and become stronger. Iris lost everything she worked to Achieve while her sister finally found her path.

Mash and Cid are both kind of oblivious to the events happening around them, but Mash's goofiness played better for me than Cid being so lame/cringe. I've laughed way more at Mash's deadpan, creampuff loving slapstick than at Cid living out his fanfiction. I agree that the "staying in the real world" plot line could have been pretty interesting. More crowbar action!

Yet while iris lost all her convication in life at that moment, alexia gained hers. She knew death was immenent, she saw the magic, but even then she claimed she'd walk down the same path if she were reborn. I find it a cool comparison between the 2 anyway. One who had everything lost it all, and the one who had nothing (was always overshadowed) gained everything in that moment. Sid may be full of jokes but the entire story/characters around it are quite serious at the same time which makes the show so appealing imo

2023-05-23 20:00:00 +0000 UTCOne thing I didn't like that they did differently in the anime is that in the Manga/Light Novel Iris asks Shadow why he doesn't just kill her and Beatrix, and he makes it explicitly clear "I only kill my enemies. You've lost sight of who your real enemies are" which leads to Iris doubting Perv Asshat and The Church even more. With the way they ended it here they're gonna have to do a lot more legwork in the future to make Iris still being a potential ally make sense.

I love OP MC's it's fun and sometimes braindead entertainment but I will die on the hill and agree with Lupa about the first episode. They dropped the ball on just building that story and character up to only have truck-kun just flip the script. Would love to have some that that first episode story n run with it. PTSD heroine dealing with trauma while dealing with home pressures n school all the while we got kickass/home grown batman tryna do his own thing. Would much more enjoy that over OP Mc which we've seen a lot now

They had the same initial concept of the MC being a dumbass with extremely competent underlings that looks up to the MC like a God. And everything they did unknowingly ended up pushing the story forward. But Overlord shifts towards being more serious with some comedic elements sprinkled on top, while eminence in shadow did the oppisite, more comedy with serious story sprinkled on top. And that's exactly what I wanted. I ended up remembering overlord not for the interesting kingdoms and their story, but because of the hell goat CG and lizard mating, while I remember shadow for the onsen and coin scene

He just needs to look cool while doing it. He cares about the girls especially the main ones like Alpha, Beta, etc. Even when he was a normal human, he truly believed in the vigilante life style and bringing unknown crimes to light. Sure he exaggerates everything, but he's always stood against injustices. Whenever he runs into these evil people doing evil shit, sure it's just a coincidence, but his mentality is still justice above all. So they are rewarded for their seriousness and dedication. For instance, the City of Alexandria. This mf Cid has an ENTIRE CITY and... he doesn't know about it. He has a massive statue in his honor! And... he doesn't know about it. But the girls reap the benefit of having that city. All of Mitsugoshi's money is HIS. But he doesn't know about it. Instead he's barking like a dog and scrapping coins off the floor being Alexia's plaything. Cid isn't rewarded at all for his selfishness, it's the opposite. The girls always reap all of the rewards. It's a common theme that you'll see continue in this story.

Extremes are bad on both side, hand holding is an extreme, but so is being completely oblivious to what the girls are going through when becoming a part of his organization. It does make me feel a little better that Rose will eventually feel better when she finishes her training, but the way they ended this season was bad. I asked the question in my original comment, what was the show trying to convey with that ending? It was like they were asking for us to dislike him, lmao. Why did they show a heartbreaking scene with Rose, then switch to Cid's clown ass to end the season? Was that supposed to be funny? I am probably being too serious, why I didn't find it funny, but Rose having to kill her Dad and losing everything other than Cid's McDonald's wrapper, and then even that getting shredded and blown to the wind and her breaking down like that, it was too much for me to then go back to Cid being a clown as usual.

It helps that he doesn’t constantly undercut “the plan” by doing something offscript and confusing SG. Effectively, where Cid knows ‘nothing,’ SG knows about as close to ‘everything’ as anyone in this story can.

The girls are very happy with Cid. He saved their lives, trained them in swordplay and magic, gave them the slime bodysuits, gave them all the knowledge they needed to become rich and famous and gave them a purpose after being abandoned by everyone they used to love (although he's dicking around but that purpose turns out to be legit). If he would have just saved them and then said "Aight, peace", they STILL would have been abandoned by their families and probably hunted down the rest of their lives. And now they even treat each other like family. Shadow Garden is basically one huge sisterhood. As for Rose, she made her choice. Multiple times. She took Shadow's power, she killed her father herself, she decided to join Shadow Garden herself. Cid doesn't need to hold her hand and baby her. She's going through it right now but there isn't a single member in Shadow Garden that looks miserable. It'll turn around. It's called character development.

I am not even talking from Cid's persepective and whether it is reasonable, I am saying the show's writers did not think this through, the ending of the season finale kind of wrecks the whole show, because it is not funny anymore, Cid is just a hollow (but strong) clown to point and laugh at.. or roll your eyes at, or get frustrated by.. that is not a good type of main character to have.

It’s not really his fault Alpha took his bs story seriously and that it actually turned out to be true. Cid’s character has always been “if it looks cool, do it!”, that’s the thing. You either love him or hate him for that, I personally like his character for the sole reason that he’s a clown just doing whatever he wants. You hate him for that exact reason, it’s all about perspective. Like I said before, Cid’s whole plan was for him and Alpha to kill people while claiming that they are the ones who know the full story and everyone else are just sheep following the “evil organization”. Go back and watch the first few episodes, the reason Alpha is there is because Cid just wanted to do experiments on a random blob he found and accidentally cured Alpha. After that he made up a story basing it off of a children’s fairy tale and Alpha bought it and started to look for more recruits, she was the one picking up girls left and right and Cid just cured them because he could.

And all of shadow garden just think Cid is this 10k IQ mastermind while this mf is just living his life of being this mysterious character. Cid’s actual goal was to show up in random battlefields with Alpha, say “fools! You are just puppets!” And slaughter everyone, but Alpha made this massive organization that is actually fighting against the Cult of Diabolos which was Cid just making up a story with the clues that were actually everywhere such as the children’s books and legends and stuff that he read as a kid.

I guess I get what you said at the end but it doesn't really make sense lmao. There is a pretty well thought out decent story here and you're supposed to piece it together with what goes on in the background but for some reason yall just keep clapping yourselves getting hung up on random shit. Season 2 is probably gonna be more your thing it's definitely lot more focused on one particular story.

It is brain dead, by design. It's intentionally made to be brain dead. It's mocking common, over used tropes in anime. So if you're intentionally looking for serious depth to hte story and have your brain preparing for it, i think it will ruin the immersion. Sometimes, there is serious plot/depth too, which makes it even harder to differentiate between parody and seriousness. You don't know what to take seriously and what not to. But watching this with that in mind for me made it much more enjoyable. The first time i tried to watch this alone, it was insufferable for the same reasons you listed.

It isn't the typical "show off my abilities" type of MC. I like the series a lot so far and hopefully it keeps it up. If anyone wants some reactors that like the series more go check out yaboyrocklee they are way more in tune with the series and can keep up with stuff. They aren't gonna look into things way too hard and think something means something completely different all the time.

The anime had a lot of epic moments and a cool story, but what happened to Rose while Cid being a clown playing a piano.. like what was the show trying to convey with that ending? All the Shadow Garden girls going through hell, casting everything away and becoming new people, but Cid literally knows nothing and thinks they all just playing a game, that was not funny man. I think it was a dumb way to end the season and idk what the plot is, the girls doing all that stuff while Cid just clowns around the entire time?

But she's utterly powerless against Cid Kagenou/Mundane Mann, who is god mode incarnate. Not to mention, she's lived her whole life knowing she's skilled and powerful, with so many people relying on her, militarily carrying the Midgar kingdom on her shoulders. Suddenly this "nobody" comes out of nowhere and basically humiliates her and makes her look like a joke. I'd be hella upset too. I don't blame her. It's just a huge shock to her system. So idk wym by "don't be mad now"... why wouldn't she be mad, in her situation? There are VERY few ppl who wouldn't be mad in her shoes, if any at all. "Niggas lose everyday." But she doesn't. That's the whole fucking point. A lifelong winner with the burden of a kingdom on your shoulders, as well as a whole lot of pride. Her reaction is extremely understandable. It's also hilarious that you think she'd be the type to take shit sitting down, literally after the previous episode. It's not about whether she thinks she can win or not, it's a matter of pride.

Only one season, so would be a quick watch but worth it. A really cool opening too. Terrarformars: Honestly, this one is wild. Not a top-tier anime or anything; pretty average, but just will in theory, and honestly would just love to see ya'lls reactions to it. Hope no one spoils anything about it or ya'll read anything on it cause I would love to see ya'lls surprise when you guys see who the bad guys are. Lol. Two seasons with a few OVA's. Live Action: Andor: Should definitely watch Andor, not only is it a top-tier show overall, but definitely one of the best star wars shows and the best thing Disney has put out with the IP. Iris being pissed at the beginning of the episode had little to nothing to do with her thinking Mundane didn’t deserve the victory because he was Shadow all along. Her hatred came from seeing Shadow, the person she believed to have wreaked havoc all over her capital. From thinking Shadow and Shadow Garden were behind Alexia’s kidnapping, to Cid’s first “I Am Atomic” nuking that big chunk of the city, to the fake Shadow Garden taking the entire school hostage then burning it down, then Shadow being shown only killing Lutheran Barnett but not until after Barnett revealed he was the one who killed Sherry’s mother in the exact same way that Shadow killed him. And now you take the series of events from her being defeated by MM (Shadow) then seeing who she believes to be her homeland’s biggest enemy literally right in front of her showing himself after toying with her their entire fight and having the people begin to doubt her strength which hit her hard cuz she said last episode “These cheers are my strengh” so having everyone witness her getting owned that way killed her. You can see even after the 2v1 she was mentally broken by the whole ordeal but she just tried to put on a brave face considering she NEVER experienced defeat until Shadow beat her soundly TWICE within the space of like 30 minutes
