i mean each person has a chaperone. Im sure the most likely outcome that was planned was they use the expendable criminals to find it then execute them anyway the asaemon are probably who are expected to bring the elixer back in the first place.

So much of this premise just doesn't work if you think about it for more than a few minutes, like the fact that "Executioners" never kill people who are capable of fighting back so they're not necessarily good fighters capable of keeping super-powered criminals in check. Or the idea that a 1:1 ratio of wardens to prisoners would be sufficient. Or even just the idea that sending wardens together with their prisoners on a suicide mission - likely condemning them to death too despite not being criminals - is fair or ethical. Idk I stopped thinking around episode 2, chalked it all up to "dumb shogun is dumb" and decided I'm only here for the great art and animation and nothing more.

The shogun is probably depending on the Asaemon to execute the criminals if they try drinking it. I'm assuming they just didn't know the bandit chief and his Asaemon were brothers.

I agree. But on the other hand, they did send dozens of samurai before and only one dude returned, but he turned into a damn flower. I'm sure they cannot afford to lose another batch of samurai and they probably cannot send an army to pursue a fairy tale like the elixir, if it does exist. They need someone expendable, and the death row criminals are perfect for this job.

Nah man, I know she has the mechanical skills to be a great fighter, but she mentally just ain't built for it. She not ready, so on an island where people getting clapped left and right she is a liability at this stage. I know she'll probably get better later, but that is only because she is a main character and being protected by a certified goddamn demon. She has not yet earned herself any esteem, all she has done was show she could have potential but then continuously fail to perform when it counts

@Lucid Drinking the Elixir would make them a criminal too, other than the one guy who joined just to save his brother, the other Asaemon might have different goals like not wanting to die on this mission so getting their criminal killed and heading back as soon as possible, but I don't think they want to get labelled as a criminal even if it is for immortality.

What would stop an Asaemon from drinking the elixir himself? If the Mangaka didn’t dumb the plot down to that extent, something along those lines would need to get taken into consideration as well down the line.

Please don’t spoil me, but then sending criminals to BRING THEM an elixir that grabs immortality is such a dumb premise for the show so far as they could just drink it themselves. I do hope that there’s a more to it, but so far the show is a little meh.

Not even Sakura is useless. Also you have the hindsight to know she isn't going to be weak for long. But as of 4 episodes, she has been useless all she does it narrate. Even if she becomes strong in episode 5 it doesn't change how shitty she was in ep1-4

@Alex i mean she already is a problem Gabimaru reacted out of danger and started auto dodging her just to not get his head cut of in the first episode. She is a problem but she clearly has doubts. just like how gabimaru has doubts in his emotion and views emotion as a weakness but can't toss them aside. Both gabimaru and sagiri are trying to come to term with their emotions Gabimaru is accepting his emotions of what he would view weakness, and told by sagiri that is a strenght. Sagiri sees gabimaru kill, without hesitation, but realizes that gabimaru is just accepting the murders he does and doesn't view it as a moral thing.

@botanbutton honestly there's a lot of things to consider when it comes to the elixir. Me personally I think you have to drink a certain amount for it to be fully effective cause if you only need a sip then you can definitely just sip it and give the rest to the shogun. Now the next question we have to ask is if there's an abundance of the plant to make the elixir from cause the only clue we got was the drawing the shogun gave to the criminals but what if it turns out there's more than 1 elixir on the island. Lastly if it's even on the island to begin with cause the only person we know that drunk the elixir was the chief but according to Gabimaru he said the chief got it on a faraway island. Shinsenkyo looks like it could be the place but there is the possibility of the elixir being on a completely different island.

Yeah, there must be a couple of really strong Asaemons, one of them being Sagiri, and like I am even questioning if Renji really did die, like that was too easy how he got smashed. They even showed him again in the brothers' backstory this episode. They kinda putting too much emphasis on him, for him to get clapped so easily, lol.

Good point on the civilization theory. It makes sense. I believe the people that were there before turned into these monster due to not being worthy of the elixir or something of that nature. The monster is definitely human. It has a sense of Justice (right from wrong) which is why it brought up the fact that murder is a sin. It’s probably a mixture of different religions on that small island that in the end combined after the atmospheric change

Volume 1 was just 6 chapters (compared to the other volumes collecting 10 chapters normally), because the first two chapters of the manga were extra long ones (and chapter 3 to a lesser extent) compared to the standard length of the chapters later on.

Gabimaru said he thinks his clan's Head had drunk the Elixir making him an immortal, we seen the old dude get stabbed from like 10 different directions with his guts spilling out and he didn't die. Very interesting, a lot of lore in the backstories that I want to know more about. The brothers are badass, the line "I am my own Lord, I am my own God!" is sick as fuck. Also the Asaemon's job is to keep the prisoners in line, I would assume one of the main responsibilities is to prevent the prisoners from drinking the Elixir, which is what most of them would do, the problem is it doesn't seem like all the Asaemon are stronger than the prisoners so they can get clapped, super dangerous, they basically on a suicidal mission, which makes sense why the "Renji" dude didn't want our main Asaemon girl to go there with them.

I mean it's not like charaters before started of weaker then they were until they became stronger....... Oh actually that has happened before. Everyone already calling her sakura based of 4 episodes is kind of wild i feel like shonen has given people too much sakura syndrome that if a character isn't useful immediately on sight they get called sakura. Same thing with nobara in jujutsu kaisen at he start of the fight she gets carried by yuji naturally beacuse yuji is physically faster and stronger then both nobara and megumin and people was calling her sakura for that. Until nobara fought.
