Ernestine Under Quarantine: "A Viscosity of Air"

#14 in my "daily video from my bedroom" series, this one put me in mind of something I was taught when I was a fledgling ballerina.

"If you see someone who looks like they're a professional dancer, watch them. Try to figure out what it is that makes them that way. Then try to copy it."

It was really good advice.

So, there was this one dancer, Leslie. I noticed that what made her look so professional was--goodness, how do I put this in words--every time her legs moved, it was if they were moving through treacle. Or water. A sense of resistance--that was purely a illusion, of her musculature and her mind--against the air.

This resistance, this illusion she created that the air was so thick that it must be pushed through, made for an elegance that I have striven for ever since.

If you are enjoying these daily videos, and if you are able, become a patron! You'll get to see my warm-ups and lots of other patron-only fanciness.

Enjoy!

Stay well, stay sane. The end is in sight.

Fondly,

Ernestine
