patrons, this is your ad-free version of this week's bonus episode, we answered questions from dogspotter and Michael Wright.

folks, we're back and continuing our Day in the Life series and this time we're talking about those fat cat royals in their palaces. sure, their positions could only exist based off the exploitation and suffering of like 98% of the populace but still, what the hell did they do all day? What did it mean to hold court? How were early Medieval courts different from their later counterparts and when did that start to change? What were things like at the court of Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV? Join us as we answer all these questions and more talking about the lives of Medieval royals.

Is there even a point to being king if one cannot raise one's favorite lowborn concubine to the fucking top? Justinian knows thats where that's at

Gil the Gilded Dragon

On Portuguese: My wife and I went to Portugal a couple years ago. We had a phrase book and tried to learn a few phrases beyond the standard tourist "Hello/Where is the train station/Please can I have a sardine and fries" business. The locals were very gracious about our attempts, but almost every time they want to let us know that *we were pronouncing it wrong*! Even the basic "thank you/have a good day," we were constantly getting our pronunciation corrected. The tricky part was, we went to several different cities, and in each we would get the pronunciations mostly down, but then in the next city they made sure to let us know that *the former city's pronunciation was wrong!* It was a little amusing, but also a little aggravating.
