hello patrons, we're back with your second bonus episode for the month of November! and this time, we're finally jumping into Star Wars and doing a series on Andor, the Disney+ streaming show, created by Ton Gilroy and starring Diego Luna. the first season of Andor released in 2022 and it attempts to inject some materialism into Star Wars and show how a rebellion forms, the bumps along the way, and the reaction of the oppressive Empire to stave off revolution. as is our wont for these series, this first episode serves as a basic introduction to the material. we discuss what Andor as a show is trying to do, why this makes it different than most Star Wars stories, and how the real world and in-universe politics of Star Wars both enable and constrain the show in meaningful ways. also there's a timeline at the end to situate everything because some people really enjoy those! this series will last for five episodes, including the introduction, with the final four episodes corresponding to the four arcs within the first season's twelve episodes. episode two, coming in later January, will cover the first three episodes.
two notes:
first, before the Andor talk starts, we briefly chat about the passing of Kissinger. enjoy!
second, the map Luke mentions in the episode is not yet complete. friend of the show David is doing a few last-minute changes based on some new info that dropped literally earlier this week, but we will post it in the attachments as soon as possible. honestly, you don't much need the map for this episode since we don't talk about any of that specifically just yet but it will be added as an attachment once complete.
