hello, lovely patrons, and welcome to the first episode of our new book club series on Dante's Inferno. This episode mostly serves as an introduction to Dante Alighieri, the guy, and The Inferno. We talk about Dante's early life, the historical circumstances that make him so, so mad at the leaders of Florence, and the ongoing fight over both his legacy and his bones. Then we discuss The Inferno as a work, what it still means to us culturally, historically, and spiritually more than 700 years after its publication.

Next month, we will explain the layout of Hell and Dante's general cosmology and get into the first cantos where we are introduced to the Ironic Punishments Division of Hell.
