How about discussing what like most about the retro community. There must be plenty of positives 😎👍

2023-01-17 19:35:20 +0000 UTCAnd besides, the Wii U is a perfectly crushable console second only to the GameCube, right? :P Note to self: Procure a Wii U :)

2023-01-17 01:16:28 +0000 UTCI would also advise doing a discussion on the obviously defunct grading companies, which were obvious money-grab just like in the trading card industry and such. Or how there were so many RPGs released during the SNES era that a lot of them got over-encompassed. Earthbound has a crazy story, and how there was even that online petition to get it done, yet it would never get done because for a game to be a success back then, you had to sell like a million copies, so even though 150k people signed the petition, nintendo was never going to release earthbound 2 N64 or other systems, until gba

2023-01-16 23:59:16 +0000 UTCAye, and I think companies have essentially already performed some depth charges to see how far they could go before widespread bad PR set in. There have been a few examples of this like threatened digital store closures for locked down hardware (PS Vita, Wii, etc), as well as server closures for games highly dependent on online architecture and services. I’m very concerned that the modus operandi seems to be “do what we want until our social media presence is made untenable from blowback”. I actually think the technology and experience is great with digital storefronts… in the short term, but I’m just not inclined to purchase any newer games in the way they really, really would prefer me to. With inertia from publishers everywhere already in place and understandable ignorance on the subject from consumers, I’m very concerned it’s going to end up very badly for consumers in the long run.

2023-01-16 23:56:34 +0000 UTCMaybe an analysis on the documentary of the E.T. video game, atari, and how everyone denied it for so long but turned out to be true.

2023-01-16 23:56:12 +0000 UTCAlso, with some consoles now having no physical media options, how does the prospect of being left high and dry if the shop platform disappears and no other means to backup/restore purchases games? Google Stadia is perhaps one of the more recent examples. People could no longer play games using the cloud platform but full refunds were issues for all game purchases (including DLC and what not). They also seem to be making good on making the Stadia controller (which might have been the best thing to come out of the Stadia service) pair with other devices.

2023-01-16 23:44:44 +0000 UTCI'd love to see a deep dive on differences between Japanese and western releases. Like Bionic Commando being the Resurrection of Hitler in Japan

2023-01-16 23:34:57 +0000 UTCThat's very true and I feel like there's going to be issues on all fronts on this. For example, what if you have to buy i.e. The Last of Us on PS3, PS4, PS5 etc etc so paying new price each time COMPARED WITH buying it once and that coming through with each new updated console... Does that mean they'll stop updating it after a while if it becomes unprofitable? There's a hell of a lot of ifs and buts I think xx

2023-01-16 21:55:14 +0000 UTCI've just understood what you meant lol. The Wii U was a miserable failure, but it doesn't mean it was a bad console. Just imagine what it could have been like with full third party support.😎👍

2023-01-16 21:53:03 +0000 UTCI’d love if more people talked about the customer hostile nature of digital sales and the knock on effects of those that aren’t realized until a long time later. Back when it was just having to buy the same older games on Wii, then Wii U, and also 3DS, I happily obliged because I wanted to support Nintendo and the third party companies for all the happy memories and experiences. But now that physical media is decidedly dying out, I think it’s fair time to reevaluate and contemplate what that means for concepts like ownership and further what that means to collectors and even just bring awareness to it for everyone. The turning point for its importance to me was the P.T./Silent hills demo on PS4. Sony demonstrated that they could make it very easy to vanish games and remove them entirely. That was just a demo, but how often have they done this purchased games? I am weary of having confidence of newer platforms but I fear that others might not consider it because they never knew the freedom of physical media ownership in the past, at least not to the extent that many do.

2023-01-16 21:46:39 +0000 UTCJust watching your video now. I hope the Vectrex video didn't give you any issues with gate keepers. The funny thing is, even though I was born in '76, and was very much alive when the Vectrex was commercially available, I didn't know it existed until I saw one on Classic Game Room. The same can be said of the Intellivision, and the excellent Colecovision. 😎👍

2023-01-16 21:46:14 +0000 UTCWhat about the VR Machines from the 90s based around an Amiga 1000 that had those HUGE headsets. Played one when I was a kid and my neck ached afterwards.
