ahhh thank you! I don't know much about vampire lore, I just though it had to be wood (but I guess splinters shouldn't be able to kill them) but through the heart makes sense! sunlight I thought just made your sparkle...(jk)

The not-so-good-news: Some of it stays kinda vague and unclear all the way to the end. People have THEORIES. Regarding "Why didn't Darla die?", it's just that Buffy missed her heart (Darla even says as much). Buffy may be the Slayer, but she can still miss, and she aimed just a bit too low. The ways to kill a vampire in this series are: 1) Wooden stake through the heart 2) Decapitation 3) Sunlight 4) Fire 5) Anything that causes significant enough damage to generally render their body to paste (AKA the "Chunky Salsa Rule") Bullets are just bits of fast-moving metal, so though they may cause debilitating pain, they don't satisfy any of the requirements. Unless you were to get wooden bullets, or just shoot them SO MUCH that we get to the Chunky Salsa state. They're also hurt by things like crosses, holy water, etc., but they don't KILL except in very unusual circumstances.
