The spaceship chairs or "crash couches" in the book, are super complicated machines with special gels and the high-G juice injector (which is why Avasarala complains at that one moment) specifically created to mitigate the effects of high G on the body. anyone not property strapped in on one of them during high G maneuvers basically becomes soup from the force of the acceleration. *unless you're going super slow, like the Weeping Somnambulist or something like that
