Im late to this but wanted to add that Itachi was kind of telling sasuke everything he had to know during the fight. "What can you see, with those sharingan of yours?" And he didn't mean it like, how far/strong is your sharingan. But rather looking at him, what can he see in front of him. And also the part where he talks about reality and each one lives his own reality while being pierced. He was hinting it the whole time.

i think my biggest issue with Sasuke wanting to destroy the Hidden Leaf after this is that, it even says it in the show. NO ONE in the village besides Danzo, the two old higher-ups and the 3rd hokage knew about Itachi’s sacrifice and the truth of it all. It’s unlikely that Tsunade even knows about it cause the 3rd was never really able to transition power and secrets to her. With that being said WHY does Sasuke have to destroy to village and not just kill those 3 mfs who plotted and used Itachi? Everyone else in the Leaf are innocents that are unaware of the truth. I’m sure if the entire village knew what itachi had done for them they would also turn on the higher-ups but i guess that’d be too smart 😂😭

Then, sixteen years ago, the Nine-Tails attacked the village. Madara is saying it's was a natural phenomenon and that's also what most people believe, while Jiraya said he suspected that Madara was actually behind the attack and Itachi also made that claim. Either way, there's been two instances of the Nine-Tails being used against the Hidden Leaf, one where Madara was explicitly involved, and a second time where we don't have any concrete evidence to say what really happened.

Itachi puts Sasuke’s life above all else and threatened to leak the village’s info if they ever touches him. Sasuke puts Itachi life above the village the same way Itachi puts Sasuke’s life above the village. Killing the whole clan isn’t what Sasuke wanted but Itachi did it anyways. Revenge on Konoha isn’t what Itachi wanted but Sasuke does it anyways. The story of the siblings are just a tragic tale with layers of great storytelling imo. Sasuke returning to the village as if they were homies day 1 would’ve made me drop the show tbh. I’ve seen many people criticise characters like Sasuke and praise Pain but if you truly understand Pain, you’d understand Sasuke as a character too.

I dont think the author is justifying it. You could argue for both sides on whether Itachi is right or wrong, its really just a matter of perspective. Itachi made his choice, and he and everyone else has to live with the consequences of it.

Just because he created a scene where people feel awful for Itachi because of the circumstances doesn't mean the author made him morally justified. I feel like the author portrayed very well that Itachi didn't really have a good choice. What was he supposed to do? Team up with his Uchiha clan and destroy the village? I suppose you can say to try to find a middle ground but with him being a double agent, how does he convince his clan to make peace with the village and vice versa? Even in real history, getting people to make peace and put the past behind is a tall task lol

As much as I like naruto there are some things in it that don't make sense and the author tries to morally justify unjustifiable things such as itach killing everyone besides sasuke. It doesn't decrease my enjoyment of the story, but it's worth pointing out how this falls apart at the slightest inspection.

You guys should watch “The final Uchiha Theme” in youtube. It was made 14 years ago (around the time this episode aired) and it was a good summarised of how Sasuke chased a ghost his entirely just to find out that this ghost only meant good things for him.

Not only that, but he had the ultimate in genjutsu, the ultimate in ninjutsu, as well as his Susano'o wieldinh both a sword that can seal anything and a shield that can deflect anything. Despite being sick and almost blind Sasuke still wouldn't of stood a chance lol. Itachi's only fault not having much chakra but he more than makes up for it with his combat IQ.

I know it’s a fictional world with fictional characters but just for a moment if you out yourself inside this world you realize the emotional impact. To take on an unfathomable task as Itachi was given, and to walk that road alone. To put yourself through the worst pain imaginable just for the sake of your younger brother, knowing none of your clan would survive. Saving Sasuke was the one thing Itachi could actively do himself.

this isnt a spoiler, but his lover was a half breed uchiha woman named izumi uchiha. they grew up together, and itachi killed her using tsukoyomi. he mentally broke her,overloading her mind with over 70 years worth of life with itachi, having kids and dying of old age in the span of less than a second. in her final moments, before passing, she thanked itachi, for a long, beautiful life together. izumi was actually the first person itachi killed that night, knowing that once izumi is gone, he can fullfill his mission, alleviating all doubt in his mind. the only women itachi killed that night was his girlfriend and his mother, as madara took care of all the women and children, stating he didnt want itachi to lose his humanity. all this information can be learned by reading itachi's 2 novels, which i highly recommend which cover his early years all the way to his initiation into the akatsuki.

Years later and I’m still crying over Itachi. I will forever say that Itachi and Sasuke have one of the best story plot EVER! Itachi’s death is honestly probably the saddest death in Naruto due to the fact that his whole life is a tragedy. Grew up in a time of war, torn between his family and the village, killed his entire clan and painted as this horrible person, suffering through his illness and trauma alone, and the one person he cares about the most is the one person he can never fully be around as well as be hated by Sasuke all this time. Regarding the question on the nine tails attacks. You guys are correct, there are two separate occurrences, the first with Madara fighting The First Hokage and the attack 16 years ago. It can be confusing because the information that is given is a little conflicted because Jiraiya stated that he believed someone (madara uchiha) could have been the one who instigated the attack, itachi stated to sasuke that madara was behind it and Madara is stating it was a natural occurrence. That is all the info given at this point

I love you guys, you're reactions are awesome. I was also in tears when I got to this part of the series. I felt this was one of the most well done arcs in this show. I love that we get to see the steps of Sasuke's identity crisis. His WHOLE life was living up to one thing and then after completing it he finds out that everything he knew and believed was a lie, Watching him go through the rage, denial, pain, and acceptance was mortifying but so GOOOD. The facial expressions, to his inability to breathe when faced with the facts were spot on, I agree Taka all the way. I would have made the same decision. His Arc remains my favorite thing throughout the entire show.

Great reaction guys. Itachi's last words always get me as well. And I hope it's okay to explain this, as I think it's only in the manga, but if not please delete my comment. Itachi's lover was a girl named Izumi and he killed her as well. But before doing so, he placed her in his strongest genjutsu (tsukuyomi) and let her experience a whole lifetime with him in which they started dating, got married and had children. In there she lived 'til 80 years old.

yes but the uchiha never tried to get in contact with the konoha leaders like hiruzen to solve their differences. And Hiruzen was a lazy leader, gave too much power to danzo. Things would have been a lot easier if hiruzen removed danzo's position and tried organizing a reunion with fugaku to talk things out.

He traumatized him even more after their first fight because he wanted there to be more hate so, he would look for ways to become even more stronger no matter what the ways were. @gabriel I don’t think it was because people were power hungry that this happened. It was way more complex than that with no easy solution and no clear correct side. The Uchiha rightly felt persecuted and backed into a corner; the villagers rightly felt afraid of them, given the Nine Tails incident and their position of power in the Police Force. It was just a bad situation that had been simmering for 80 years, with no clear “bad guy”.

Itachi Uchiha, one of the best characters in all of Naruto! ❤❤❤ Whenever I watch these episodes, I feel for Itachi because I can't imagine how hard it was for him to make that decision and have to say all those things to Sasuke... He was really a caring, loving and kind-hearted big brother, ❤❤ and it's terrible that Sasuke had to lose him. The part where Sasuke cries and says he wants to destroy Konoha gets me every time because you're not used to see Sasuke cry. And the tragic fact that Sasuke decided to destroy Konoha even though Itachi sacrificed everything to protect the village is just sad, but also understandable. I mean, for Sasuke, Konoha is responsible for all the pain and suffering Itachi had to go through, so it's clear that he now wants revenge for his big brother. But to say that you are now on Sasuke and Team Taka's side is of course not really great either but also understandable. I mean, basically the people who now live in Konoha have nothing to do with any of this and are innocent. The only people in Konoha who know the truth about Itachi and are responsible for it are Danzo and the two village elders. Oh, everything is so complex in Shippuden, but that's exactly what makes a good story when it's not just black and white. And that's why it's good Ron said in these episodes that he can also have understanding and sympathy for Madara and also Danzo, because if Naruto does something well, it's to show that no character is really "evil" and all have their own reasons and motivations Without a doubt, one of the best anime!! ❤❤❤

A lot of people were confused by why Sasuke wants to destroy the Leaf village after all Itachi did to protect the village from Uchiha, saying it went against logic. But from Sasuke's perspective, the village made his own brother slaughter their whole clan, take the blame and leave the village while the Leaf stays quiet about it. The third Hokage did try to prevent it and was asked personally by Itachi to protect Sasuke and stay silent, but Danzo and the two advisors can go screw themselves and I wish Sasuke happy hunting regarding them

If you have more time in your schedule I think you should consider doing three episodes per drop, 30 more minutes is not much but it keeps you hooked and more invested. BTW Itachi is the best big brother in anime history, he gave everything just to protect his little brother, he planned everything from the start. Later in Shippuden there will be a backstory on Itachi and his perspective during the killing of the Uchiha clan and there you will be able to see his real emotions during a act and not his acting and trying to stay strong. I don't know if it is a filler tho, I don't think it is because I watched it and used a list of filler episodes to avoid them. It will hit even harder, seeing him cry and more. Love your reactions, it feels like I'm watching it for the first time with you. Your work is appreciated!

if you think about it, itachi had to leave the leaf because of what they said - itachi was the sacrifice. the hidden leaf needed a way to kill the uchiha clan entirely without the higher ups of the hidden leaf having any blame. only 3 living people know about it and they're all elderly. Itachi went into exile as the man who slaughtered his clan, they needed people to know that itachi did it so the rest of the leaf wouldn't revolt against the hokage

The light novels weren't technically canon, but Kishimoto (the creator of Naruto) did illustrate them. The novels dig a little more into Itachi's backstory and the events of the Uchiha massacre

If you deduct from episode 140 that Itachi didnt want Sasuke to know out of embarassment then you are quite frankly wrong. Itachi made his choice between his clan and the village and deemed his clan to be wrong so for the sake of peace he killed them. That is the deduction you are meant to make. Itachi did not regret betraying his clan nor did he put amaterasu in Sasukes eye to kill Madara because of embarassment it was so Sasuke would not find out the truth and seek revenge on the Hidden Leaf because Itachi chose their side going as far as killing his clan. If you think otherwise you are wrong. It was pretty obvious from these episodes and I do not know for sure if it even gets mentioned in great detail again.

It's 2:44 AM for me now, but I just had to stay up to watch this. We finally got to Itachi's background story. It is such a heartbreaking story, and I can see from your reactions that you feel the same. Just as you said, it is such a perfectly written story, because you can actually sympathise with everyone involved to some extend. You can understand Madara's perspective, of wanting the best for his clan, and feeling betrayed. You can understand the Uchiha clan, for feeling like they are being alienated, and separated from the rest of the village. You can understand the fear and hesitation from the village elders and Danzo, because the Uchiha is such a force to be reckoned with. And you can understand Itachi's perspective, of wanting to avoid war at all costs, but also not being able to kill his brother. It feels like everyone involved is a human, who makes reasonable decisions based on where they are coming from. Nothing feels forced. And that is a sign of great writing.

Itachi’s life and truth always breaks my heart 😭 all he did for Konoha and Sasuke. He loved his clan too. He took that burden and wanted everyone to see him as the villain so that the Uchiha were seen as a proud clan to Sasuke and the village :( when he was a hero and never got the recognition he deserved, just hate. In episode 138, when orochimaru appears out the snakes mouth & says finally “sasuke is weak I can take his body” AND IN THAT SPLIT SECOND Itachi’s eyes got fucking big and crazy. Then he stabbed Orochimaru with the blade 😂😂😂 I’ve only just realized this after watching Naruto for the 7th time 💀💀💀💀 Itachi 🐐

I can finally mention this without spoilers, in ep 126 when Naruto tells Itachi that he is more of brother to Sasuke than Itachi ever was, Itachi smiles, when I first saw it, i thought he was mocking him somehow, but now it means so much more, he was happy to see that Sasuke found someone that would take care of him even after he his death. BTW this death was the one that broke me, I don't think I cried like this for a shonen character ever

The nine tailed fox was a random occurrence that happened 16 years ago. The uchiha were blamed because they were the only ones who could control it. It appears that Madara did use the nine tails to fight hashirama long before the second occurrence. Those two statues of those two are the memorial of that fight. Hope this clears up that little confusing part.

FunFact: If u watch their fight again, when Orochimaru goes out, he said: "Now that his chakra can no longer suppress me, i will take over his body". In that moment, Itachi was unable to keep on character and had a change in his face, just before sealing him away. That's a cute detail. I'm sorry, but, there's no other show like Naruto
