This is one of the most heavily critiqued moments of One Piece by fans. IT is really out of character that Luffy would not trust his friends first. But it is basically just meant to be badass and sort of a gag. However, what is really in character for Luffy here, is that he would never believe that someone that would give him food could be bad ;) It is a bit of fan service really, since the fans wanted to see Luffy and Zoro fight

I know many will probably disagree with me because they think this fight between Zoro and Luffy is pointless, but I personally love this fight! I mean, it just shows how stubborn they both are and that they are equals. I also love how Luffy and Zoro completely ignore their "real" opponents and basically disrespect them. Too much titles in anime. As Zoro says, we shouldn't just follow titles blindly, especially because it's not written facts, just things people in the series interpreted with their own knowledge. Buggy is "Buggy the immortal". Don krieg was believed to be the strongest in the east blue. Then we see arlong who is much stronger. It's all over the place

I get the comment about training arcs and they're usually my least favorite arcs too but they are necessary sometimes for the progress. It would be a bit weird to see seomeone pull out new moves nad growing without any practice

The Luffy & Zoro fight wasn’t going to be added by Oda (the Manga creator) but his editors persuaded him to do it. He had to come up with a way to make them fight but not make it too serious at the same time, so he just decided to make it about food. I wouldn’t take that moment too seriously tbh.

Ahh yes the Luffy v Zoro fight which was definitely out of place and I used to dislike it but I don't mind it so much after repeated watches. I do agree it should not have happened especially with how Zoro trusts Luffy and vice versa but to me it was more of a gag/fun fight and to add some chaos/excitement to what is happening especially without how easy they dispatch of Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine. You'll get a good grasp on the power system/devil fruits soonish, I really appreciate how the power system evolves as the series goes on and if you pay attention to certain stuff early on it rewards it later on .

I think the prevailing theory for why Zoro and Luffy got into such a "serious" fight is that it was highly requested by readers (I'm not 100% sure about the validity of that). It certainly is very out of character for both of them and it feels like its forced more than would make sense for the story.

Awesome timing. So her Kilo Kilo fruit is the same in the dub. I think she's the first case of a great DF with a bad user. She could lighten herself before running to increase speed, then increase it to hit harder, but her aerial strategy is what she sticks with.
