I have only read the manga and not the novel and although his pervy behaviour doesnt disappear it does get toned down, however there are a lot of questionable decisions made in the show so i wouldnt defend it too hard, but i still like the show. As Rudeus is a more relatable and real character than a lot of other isekai protagonists out there who are all one dimensional and doesnt have faults, it is refreshing seeing a character who isnt perfect and has his fair share of problems. Just my opinion tho so feel free to disagree

If that's a "quality flaw of true storytelling", then that's just odd. Mushoku Tensei is what every person who dislikes anime thinks of the whole style of animation. Every Rudeus defender is odd. But that doesn't mean I don't like the show. I think it's a good show that is made worse by pointless Rudy "charms".

SAO is also good but only for S1 as same as slime, and for shield hero its just decent.

I also believe it does the Isekai genre pretty well compared to most Isekai's.

I'd probally watch along the first season then drop it on s2 until yall reach the very end of it before theres some "reaction worthy" stuff again (to me anyway). Mushoku has some ehh lets call it disturbing subjects in it, but everything about the show outside of that is superior to any other ones on the list. Amazing music, voice acting, animation and storytelling (both world building and characters wise)

Mushoku is about a guy who struggled in his past and lived a life full of regrets and is given a second chance. As the show goes on we see he f***ed up tendencies and behaviour but at the core of it, he is someone who wants to do better despite not really knowing how.

Therefore, I recommend Mushoku Tensei as it is shorter, more intense, has a cool setting, interesting (and controversial) characters, great fantasy soundtracks and a spirit of adventure (something that reminds me of The Lord of the Rings). Mushoku is good but it’s not as good as Re:Zero so it would be a bit of a downgrade as a show since you would hate the main character SAO is objectively terrible outside of Season 1 and Alicization, season 2 is one of the worst things I’ve seen. For isekai I’d go: 1) Re:Zero, 2) Konosuba, 3) Slime, 4) Shield Hero (only the 1st season, the 2nd season was terrible), 5) Mushoku, 6) Tanya the Evil, 7) Overlord Then the rest
