I think you guys are a little confused on what how Mangekyou works , the "torture" world (tsukuyomi) that Itachi uses with his Mangekyou Sharingan is exclusive to him, he mentions this to Kakashi before putting him under, and he also mentions only someone with a Mangenkyo Sharingan can oppose his Tsukuyomi, he also describe the tsukuyomi to Kakashi when he tells him that it's a world where he controls time and space, so it's not really a torture world, he just choses to torture his opponents in that world to break their minds.

Itachi said, "Onore no utsuwa wo hakaru tame da"（己の器を計るためだ) It's the correct direct translation (that's how it was back in 2002~2004, lol). It's not wrong or complicated, just word for word, using Itachi's exact words. The words he uses in this sentence are important in some ways since it gives insight into Itachi. I think he's being very cryptic and distant. I also will say the other definition for 'utsuwa' is ability which is, of course, much easier to understand than the use of 'vessel', lol.

Orochimaru with the info gathered so far could most definitely not defeat the ENTIRE Uchiha clan and as stated Itachi is stronger not every motive is Orochimaru. “Vessel” was just a off translation. In the manga, when itachi used mangekyo sharingan on kakashi, or on sasuke, or on the wall of the toad stomach, the author made it noticable that his eyes are not shown. The anime though fucked it up by showing him having regular sharingan when he used mangekyo abilities, that's why it's confusing
