This is such a underrated fight but one of my favorites! They were so evenly matched and each trying to find the others weakness. This also showed what a great strategist Neji is and that last move letting himself get hit by the golden arrow then sending a blast of chakra up the web was epic! This is why he will always be one of my favorite characters!

The bird signifies the fact that neji is no longer a caged bird. He always felt trapped inside his "branch" family's curse and Naruto saved him from it during the Chuunin exam. This fight is what solidified that belief within Neji even further that allowed him to completely dedicate himself to the mission and sacrifice himself.

To add on to the end discussion. They have shown neji's potential with the byakugan however he is not the only hyuga in the group of 13 genine. Sadly it makes sense to kill him here since they can now focus their attention on hinata and show the powers she can reach. That's why they always compared them, I wish they had kept neji but hinata's character being so intertwined with her fixation on naruto is to important to the narrative to kill her (not that I want her to die) fly high neji

Michelle I would recommend you and Ron switch to headsets instead of ear buds. When your ears start getting itchy its cuz the buds are building up too much bacteria in your ear canals. The bird and butterfly are symbolisms of Neji's freedom due to Naruto and Choji's confidence and friendship that Shikamaru gave him. They are at war times and being a Ninja is like a soldier/intelligence agent and they will be at risk to die even if it is a mission to bring back a rogue soldier/agent. He has the Sharingan that can be used by enemies of the Konoha village. For Naruto, he cannot let Sasuke leave as a friend and for the Konoha village, he will be a risk if he leaves the village and falls into enemies hands even if he has control of his own.

I think the significance of the bird is like Neji was a bird in a cage, trapped because of his fate, until he fought against fate and freed himself from that cage. In the case of Choji, the butterfly signified him stepping out of his shell, gaining confidence in himself and just spreading his wings, like a butterfly. That's what I think they mean atleast.

It's not only to save sasuke but the village itself , sasuke knowledge of the village weaknesses and of the uchiha is a treath in enemy hands. The mission tsunade gave shikamaru wasn't save sasuke but get him back by any means.

It makes you wonder if Sasuke is really worth all these sacrifices. Like, the dude willingly left Konoha. The life of a ninja is dangerous, and the ninja world generally values completing the mission over saving your comrades, but the results have been pretty bad so far (granted, Naruto doesn't know how these fights are concluding). I don't blame Naruto and the others for wanting to save Sasuke, but it's coming at a heavy cost.

The bird is associated with Neji in Naruto. All the time that Neji was trapped by his past and his "alleged" destiny, he was like a bird in a cage. But now thanks to Naruto he has realized that he can determine his own destiny, which now makes him a free bird. The bird represents Neji's freedom to choose his own life and decisions And guys, just because the boys are down unconscious at the end of the fight doesn't mean they're going to die right away, not everyone has to die! 😂😂 Rengoku's death traumatized you guys incredibly

I dont think that's true. He didn't really "learn" them on the fly in this battle. He used what he was already capable of doing in a way that fit his situation proving again why he's called a genius. Neji said at the beginning of this encounter that he's able to release chakra from every chakra point in his body. Also, Gentle Fist doesn't send chakra needles from just the fingers. They release a mass of chakra from their entire hand into the opponents body. Guy pretty much broke this down during the exams. Both of the things he did are derivations of these. It's just practical application of what's already in his toolkit

Being a caged bird You guys have to realize that this is the biggest and most pivotal arc of this first Naruto series. This first series is just the prologue to Shippuden.
