Major points worth noting: With the exception of the star plasma vessel and the buff dude in the black shirt at the end of the episode, you’ve seen all these characters in some form or another either in season one or in JJK0. The Jujutsu school doesn’t know that Geto is working with the special grade curses in season one. Furthermore, we are led to believe that Geto died at the hands of Gojo at the end of JJK0 after they speak with each other, even though you don’t see it on screen. The stitches on his forehead have not been explained so far in the anime

(Pseudo-spoiler warning in case you don't actually want to be reminded of season 1 stuff) And of course, the least recognizable is Shoko Ieiri (the girl with the short brown bob who was with Gojo and Geto) who is, in current time, that doctor who was going to be tasked with doing an autopsy on Yuuji when he "died." So, none of the people featured thus far besides Star Plasma Vessel-chan and the Zenin/Fushiguro assassin guy at the end are not present in season 1.

I joined when you guys first started watching JJK so this is all coming full circle for me. haha Also, Mappa did season 1 -- they just didn't have nearly the funding that they probably do now so they clearly allocated a good portion of their yearly budget for this. I am sure others mentioned this as well, but the two girls you saw in the beginning you have seen before. I know you were mentioning a list of characters you haven't seen in modern day, but you didn't mention them so I figured I'd flag it for ya. The purple hair girl in the kimono (Utahime) just has a facial scar and was featured during the invasion of the curses during their little tournament arc. Additionally, the woman with the white hair who wields the big axe (Mei) was willing to fight off the invaders during the tournament of season 1 if she was promised a bonus for her efforts. Both of which also had cameos in the movie, or at least Mei did for sure.

Yeah the director changed this season but it has nothing to do with Chainsaw Man, the project already started right after the last season. MAPPA is a studio but they don't really have animator staff inside, they usually hire directors and animators like freelancers for each anime separately. Only the producers and promotion staffs are the same. Additional info since the english subs can't translate it fully: When Geto said Gojo "shouldn't be full of himself" and "be more polite & humble", in Japanese he actually said Gojo should adress himself “boku" or at least "watashi", not "ore" because it's more polite with boku/watashi. He rejected that critic, but in season 1 & in the movie we could see Gojo adressed himself as "boku". So it's kinda ironic because he rejected it and addressed himself "ore" all the time when he was in high school with Geto but then changed it after they separated.

Like Ron said in the beginning, I suggest to do recap too. Or you'll just get confused for the rest of the show 😅 And I suggest to recap not only the characters and the story but also basic knowledge of how jujutsu works (like curse energy, curse technique, pact, veil, 3 major clans, etc). Even though I get the excitement that you guys want to dive right now and I appreciate that a lot. But I feel like JJK is not a show that you can just watch blindly, especially because it doesn't explain everything like typical shonen show. I saw almost every reactors got confused a lot even until the end of season 1, and this season a lot more confusing especially after few years break (even though there was a prequel movie). I get that most reactors out there are hype for the actions, but if they paid attention to the dialogues I'm sure they could get most of the thing, at least the characters. For example Mei Mei talked a lot about money in the past season and also the movie, so even if it might hard to recognize her by her visual this time, we could kinda get that since she talks about money over and over again in this episode. Also the names Zenin and Fushiguro are both appeared in past season so it's pretty obvious, it's kinda sad that most reactors didn't get the impact of the last scene, I remember when I first read that scene alone I was like, "Wait, what????" and the twitter trends became crazy back then 🥲 For manga reader maybe it's kinda easier to digest because we get to read new chapters almost every week for magazine readers and new volumes by only a few months wait for a book readers, but even then we still need to recap a lot by reading a few last chapters or volumes of manga because there are sooo much to take in one chapter. Even though I get that a lot of reactors like blind react but I just feel like it's kinda wasted to watch this show and get confused most of the time and only hype for the actions when JJK is much more than that.

We already know what happens to the three of them--Ieiri is the school's nurse or doctor, Gojo is a teacher, and Geto was killed by Gojo in the movie for being a terrorist. It's bittersweet to see these memories.

In this episode we see Gojo believe in "Survival of the Fittest" vs Geto believe in "The strong exist to protect the weak". This is really important as what we see in the movie especially is the opposite. Geto killing innocent civilians (the "weak") and Gojo protecting them seriously. Now begs the question what made them both switch mentalities about strong vs weak.

You actually saw almost all of the characters featured in this episode in the first season. - Shoko, the girl who looks like Nobara, is the woman Itadori attempted to autopsy when he was presumed dead - Mei Mei, the woman with white hair, is the woman that's so obsessed with money, the one with the braid covering her right eye - And Utahime is the woman with the scar on her face, who is also the teacher of the students at the Jujutsu Academy in Kyoto, so she is the teacher of Todo and the others By the way, it wasn't explained in the first season or in the movie why Geto has a scar on his forehead, and I really regret that you didn't realize that the guy's last name at the end of the episode is Fushiguro!!! 😱😱 And yes, the first season was also animated by MAPPA, but the reason why the animation is so reminiscent of Chainsaw Man is because the director has changed, and the new director I think also had a lot to do with Chainsaw Man

Both the hidden inventory arc as well as the shibuya incident arcs are some of the best storylines in JJK and yes you will be getting some very clear answers regarding some of the heavier questions that you’ve had regarding certain characters. I will say both of you could really probably do with a rewatch of the first season and movie cause it looks like you have forgotten some stuff and you both missed a lot of connections that were shown in this episode. Which isn’t a critique, I wasn’t one of the og but your Jjk reactions were what brought me in onto your YouTube channel and a patreon supporter and I know how long it’s been since you saw any of the first season. That being said I’m gonna try and do a quick breakdown of some of the characters you’ve missed. So to start I will state the exact time period we’re looking at here. Obviously this takes place in the past when Gojo & Geto were still in school. They’re both only 16 at this point and consider each other one another’s best friend. I don’t think either of you guessed it so I will mention that the third to the core group of Geto & Gojo, the one who looks like Nobara? That’s Shoko Leiri and you met her in season 1. She was the doctor/mortician type lady that you were introduced to after Yuji was ‘killed’. She’s known Geto & Gojo for years and was their close classmate, and still works alongside Gojo. As for the one that looks like she could be related to Gojo, that’s Mei! The cool boss babe who’s all about making that bank. You get small glimpses of her in the first season as well as the movie and she is still very much around. You also actually happen to see some other characters you’ve met in season 1 in the op as well, they’re just YOUNG/look different. I’m surprised the names Fushigoro & Zenin didn’t ring any bells for you to since they belong to characters from season 1. Lastly, it is very much something to see Gojo and Geto as they were at 16 and having completely different opinions then when we first meet them in the current timeline with them both having almost completely exchanged their opinions for each others. Without spoiling anything specific I will say this arc will hopefully give you a idea of how this happened and what events exactly altered their perspectives so drastically and how their clearly close friendship became the tragedy it does. It should be noted though, at this time they’re both 16, and second years at school and are both considered THE STRONGEST the school has to offer if not the strongest within world of jujutsu sorcery so aside from being born naturally gifted/blessed with extremely powerful bloodline techniques both Geto and Gojo’s confidence isn’t exactly misplaced. They are both THAT GUY. As you’ve noted though, as has Geto, Gojo’s confidence does lean into the side of arrogance which—— being known as one of the strongest—- at 16, having the drip he does and the prestige of both being the head of a powerful clan as well as having the powerful inherited techniques from it—- it makes sense 🤣 but it doesn’t mean Geto’s wrong when he says Gojo could do with checking it a bit. Just cause it’s warranted doesn’t mean it’s not a lil—- misguided? As could be indicated from his current mindset on certain topics. Anyways terrific reaction guys, I can’t wait to see more 🫶
