I think they said once, that sun breathing was the original form and that every other descends from that. Also, that sun breathing was lost in time, so no one can really use it anymore.

You have to be one of the "chosen" swordsmen to be able to use sun breathing. It's not a breathing style that can be learned by anyone.

Oh my god, I still have Yugioh cards! I loved Yugioh!!!! I was so heartbroken learning about the creator of Yugioh passing away. Kazuki Takahashi, the goat, died trying to save someone from drowning. Don't be like Muzan! The most important fact this show is trying to teaching us is that the most important things that got passed on is not in the blood(or genetic). Love, resort, techniques are not inherited, one acquires them on the way through something other than blood. This is the best part of Demon Slayer than a lot of other shows where genetic inheritance is more important than one's effort or "destiny"..( I'm talking to you, end-game Naruto :( , though I like it very much. )

It's not genetic, remember the original sun breathing user is not related to Tanjiro, Tanjiro's ancestor learned sun breathing and passed it down kind of like a religious prayer. To me it seems that these are techniques learned it has nothing to do with whether a person is from a certain bloodline. Which is why Tanjiro started by learning Water breathing.

Tanjiro learned water breathing from Urokodaki. Urokodaki is a water breathing user much like Giyu. So natually he taught water breathing. Plus it is also said that water breathing is the easiest to master and it has a good balance between offence and defence. And water breathing is the most common form of breathing among demon slayers. Sun breathing is the other one Tanjiro uses. He know it as Hinokami Kagura which in english translates to Dance of the Fire God. It was passed down by his family as kind of a religious prayer to the Fire God. Because of this Tanjiro started calling it Fire breathing before Rengoku's father told him it was sun breathing. Flame breathing (used by Rengoku) is a completely different type of breathing derived from Sun breathing much like water breathing.

Tanjiro, Nezuko and Genya could not move is because usually in anime when an opponent is stronger, they have a stronger presence and pressures those that are weaker, overpowering them. It happens quite a lot in Shounen anime. (You will see it in Naruto too.) A refresher for breathing forms. The Sun breathing form is the original breathing form. All current breathing forms are all derived from the Sun breathing. Those who learned but was unable to master Sun Breathing made something similar that catered to their own strengths and weaknesses which created the five main breathing forms: Water, Flame, Thunder, Stone, and Wind Breathing. Subsequently, there are other special breathing forms which was created or evolved to suit each individual themselves like the Insect, Mist and Love Hashira. Breathing forms are taught and each individual can evolve it. Tanjiro learned water breathing from Urokodaki-san and Sun breathing from the Hinokami Kagura dance from his father.

I don’t think that’s spoiling because in the flashback with Sumiyoshi it was mentioned that yoriichi did not have any heirs/offspring and that yoriichi helped save the Kamado family so based on that analysis we can safely say that’s not a spoiler. However if that is the case I’m trying to figure out as well as how muichiro is a descendant of yoriichi

Yes you can. Its pretty easy. Its been shown Tanjiro is not a descendant of the old guy they showed, they showed Tanjiros ancestor being associated with him. Whilst Muchiro is said to be a descendant

You can pick up details that they aren’t related based off of what they’ve shown in the anime. Muichiro is a descendant of the first sun breather, but we know that tanjiro isn’t directly related from his descendants memory, who is a different person from the sun breather

Breathing styles can almost directly be related to martial arts styles. There's taekwondo, Kung fu, karate, etc and they all have distinct styles and strengths. So in that way, it's almost all nurture (learned). Just like in real life, your body might be physically more adapted for one martial art over another (kicks vs punches vs weapons vs grappling). In Tanjiro's case, he learned water breathing because giyu is a water hashira and sent him to a water breathing trainer

The breathing types are usually taught by the master but most of the hashira have turned the orignial breathing types into unique types that fit them better. Like mist and love breathing. Sun breathing was taught to tanjiro by his father under the name hinokami kagura which was passed down by his father.
