This is the qualifier for their region to make the national tournament.. Which is the real tournament for all regions in japan held in tokyo. It doesnt really have anything to do with who makes the japan national team... ushiwakas team could lose in the qualifiers and ushiwaka would still be on the under 18 national team. This qualifier tournemant is to see who from sendai will go to the tokyo national tournemant. Which is where all of the schools we see karasuno practice with will be, like Nekoma and fukurodani. Thats why the nekoma keeps saying they hope to see eachother both make it to the national stage, so they can have the dumpster match in a real official game.
