Guitar Playing

A lot of people have asked for me to post a sample of my guitar playing so... here you go. I wrote this piece about a decade ago and to be honest, I find it especially interesting because it is so UNLIKE anything else I have ever written. Most of the music I've created over the years is nothing like this. This piece sounds like something written in 1825 by some obscure unknown homeless classical guitar player.

That being said, that's why I always liked this one and attempted to make a halfway-decent recording of it (which I recently discovered on an old hard drive).

It has a distinct "melancholy" to it and seems to be hinting at some kind of journey. I have no idea how I came up with it and most of the chord shapes were made-up inversions and combinations I've never played before or since. There is a kind of organized chaos to it.

Also, there was no digital trickery involved in the recording. There is no layering of tracks, what you hear is all happening in one take with two hands on one acoustic guitar, played into a laptop microphone. I am playing the bass, melody, and chords all at the same time, using a lot of open strings to give the impression that another guitar is playing behind.

Give it a couple listens, because (at least for me) this track seems to grow on me after a few. Maybe one day I will make a really long instrumental and this will just be one part of it.

In unrelated news, I seem to have developed a case of pink-eye so this new chapter will come out later than I wanted. I'm about to post something else I think you will like too, stay tuned!

Holy shit this is so good! ♥️

That is absolutely up my alley. It sounds like it belongs on the Life is Strange soundtrack!

Wow! So great! So glad Elan did not destroy you- you’re multitalented. Congratulations on it all, especially your survival and growth and sharing it!

I love this! The slight chaos of it is really cool. A beautiful piece all around. I'd put this on repeat for an hour or two easy. Any chance we'll get this on Spotify some time in the future?

This is so far ahead of what I can do on the guitar, it's hard to imagine just how much experience and practice went into it. Amazing.

Thanks for sharing this. It reminds me of Megadeth's song "Foreclosure of a Dream". Dunno if you know Megadeth but that's a big compliment coming from me.
