This page has probably changed the most since my initial script, and I'm still making tweaks. The version on the left is only slightly modified from what's in the PDF, while the version of the right is how it was originally written (minus a 4th panel, that would have had Candice standing stunned in the middle of a panoramic view of the diner, with customers on both sides staring at her).
While I still like the original version, it doesn't really work. Candice would have done the math a long time ago, and figured out that she's only around 15-16 years younger than her mother, so she wouldn't want to give Mercy that kind of opening. It'd also be the sort of scandal that a rich, affluent family like hers would do their best to hide.
Finding out that the woman she thought was her sister is actually her real mother, though? That's the bigger bombshell, I think.
