Short update today, wanted to do something kinda jokey to lighten the mood a little before we keep going ♥ A few quick updates, too:

First, we're caught up on updating the speed draw playlist now! Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRHy9i_m32r0-EIkDjwZqoZ6fmBpo88s4

Second, we're starting the sketch phase for a story we pitched to Slipshine that we're planning to launch this summer— we'll have WIP sketches from these new pages to share extremely soon! We'll also have an ETA on (and WIP shots of) our next TOY extra in the next couple weeks, as well!

Flipping and rotating the canvas works the same as rotating a piece of paper as you draw on it. Your wrist is really only designed to bend at certain angles, and some lines would be quite physically painful to draw with the canvas never rotated. Repetitive stress in bending the wrist at unnatural angles like that can lead to carpal tunnel, especially when you draw for 40+ hours a week! Rotating and flipping the canvas not only makes a line easier to draw by working with the natural bend of your wrist, it also allows the brain to see the work from other angles, which can be helpful for spotting perspective and anatomy mistakes.

I just watched a Speed Draw for the first time, following that link. So, first, it's fascinating to watch; thank you so much for posting them! For example, just as I'm thinking you're drawing any old where, you put down perspective lines. Second, I would kill to be able to do what you do! And third, you must have answered this a million times and I'm sorry for being a newbie, but why do you keep flipping the page around a vertical axis, and sometimes rotate it 90°? How does that help? Thanks!

We’re currently part of Hiveworks Comics, a digital webcomics publisher— Slipshine is their 18+ content branch of comics. We’ll be launching a second comic with them this summer. We should have more info about that very shortly, including links!

P.S. Who is Slipshine?

Brian Harvey

I'm embarrassed that it never occurred to me that it might be French. Lots of French words that make it into English change their pronunciation in the process. (Not always an improvement...)

Paddington? Well, isn't he an interesting boy lol

Very exciting news!
