Spirit fusion: Addendum 1

//Addendum 1//

Royal Hyrule carp spawning

It has been a few months since Zelda’s body changed to that of a fish, and she has been living inside of a remote reservoir overlooking Zora’s domain for multiple weeks now. Some of the locals used to report seeing a large yellow fish swim through the reservoir as they walked by, which led to us asking the Zora royalty to officially designate the reservoir as being inaccessible to the general public.

Nobody has ever discovered that a transformed Zelda is living inside, outside of a few involved personnel and close relatives to Zelda. She spends most of her days swimming underwater without restraint, though she does occasionally come up above water if she has something to say, or if she’s getting hungry. Her vocal chords have remained unchanged, so she can still speak with anyone she wishes, though this only really happens if she has anything special to notify us about. This doesn’t happen too often, though one instance did stand out to us.

 In the days leading up to the time period where she would normally be menstruating, we noticed a significant increase in what at the time was assumed to be body fat around her stomach. This was highly irregular, as Zelda didn’t increase her food intake before this time, so we simply assumed this must just be another new transformation. We were partially correct though, when one day Zelda exclaimed about something needing to “come out” of her. That’s when we first learned of Zelda’s new spawning cycle, as we were all shocked to see 4 large eggs coming out of her genital slit one after the other.

Instead of ejecting blood and an egg cell once every month on her period, she now ejects unfertilized fish eggs once every three or four weeks, which are very similar to the ova from normal river fish. The main difference is that these eggs are significantly bigger in relation to her body size than the eggs from normal fish, being about as big as a large human fist. Zelda has gone through this new menstrual cycle a few times now, and she has expressed some discomfort every time she’s needed to “give birth” to these eggs. She spawns anywhere between 3-5 eggs every time her menstrual cycle ends, which is luckily far less then real fish have to spawn. With Zelda's new monthly cycle, we have observed that her stomach will swell accordingly in the days leading up to the spawning. For about 5 days before she lays her eggs, Zelda’s stomach becomes considerably more round, making it appear as though she has been pregnant for 5 months. These eggs are always unfertilized, and we are currently undergoing experiments to determine which species is needed to let these eggs hatch.

Due to Zelda's biology being unique, and her being the only kind of her species, it’s heavily theorized that there is no living creature who can help fertilize her eggs, regardless, efforts have been made to fertilize Zelda’s eggs externally from the three species she resembles the most. Though as this yields no results so far, we ended up deciding to try internal fertilization next.
