Snes9x/Snes9x 2010 now have CPU overclocking!

SNES9x mainline and Snes9x 2010 libretro cores now have CPU overclocking! Many games for the SNES suffered from slowdown due to the weak main CPU, this optional feature helps wonders in that regard!

See a before/after video of a game notorious for excessive slowdown on the SNES, Gradius 3 down below!

This is an optional feature that you can enable by Going to Quick Menu -> Options and enabling CPU Overclock. The option is not perfect and might cause bugs, however, for the vast majority of games that we so far have tested, it seems to cause no serious detrimental effects. The only game so far that it completely breaks when this is being activated, is Chrono Trigger (the music seems completey broken then).

Other than that, the slowdowns in games like Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts are completely gone, ditto in Sparkster, Gradius 3, Super Castlevania IV, Mega Man X1, and so many other games that were really plagued by slowdown due to the Super Nintendo's notoriously underpowered CPU. It even helps in games like Donkey Kong Country 2 which still tends to suffer from slowdown a lot. It also seems to greatly improve the framerate/fluidity of SuperFX games, so definitely try it there as well. Even games like Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past seems to benefit in that not only the slowdown is gone, but the transition effects when moving between screens is a lot smoother.

You can get the latest up-to-date cores from our buildbot through the Online Updater available from inside RetroArch.

PS. And just for your viewing pleasure, another video - this time showing Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, a notorious slowdown-ridden early SNES game -
