RetroArch Roadmap for v1.7.0 and beyond

Nevertheless, we feel compelled to share with you from now on a brief roadmap status update that basically shows what we are currently working on codebase-wise, where RA will go next, etc. We also hope this will be of use to existing upstream contributors.

Have you tried wiiflow, one of the game launchers homebrew for Wii ? There's a version that includes Wii, GameCube and emulators games launching, with changing box proportions and per game/platform configuration. I think it's a pretty interesting example for emulation gui.
