Brilliant article Alice. I've been in favor of cannabis legalization for decades and just for full transparency I have never used myself. I simply understand the science as well as the political truths behind why it's illegal and when it's all reviewed the only logical path is legalization. Not surprisingly, I can say the exact same things for legal sex work (except I have visited a legal brothel). It's been great to see the strides made in recent years, however right now there is a legal quagmire between federal and state because they still refuse to legalize at the federal level even though 34 states have now legalized for either medical or recreational use. Unfortunately all banking regulations are federal even if a bank's footprint fully resides in all legalized states so all cannabis business transactions typically have to be refused. Almost 70% of the country has legalized and most legislation changes take either a simple majority or 2/3 majority to pass so the fact it has not been federally changed makes no sense. This is what happens moral minorities are allowed to steer policy. I see the same path ahead of legal sex work unfortunately, but perhaps the movement will be able to make some use of momentum from cannibis legalization. About the most positive thing I can say is generational change is on our side as younger more progressive citizens continue to replace the older generations. I'm optimistic. I just don't know if I'll see it in my lifetime.
