I like to see this not as a remake, but just another movie on its own. It's too trippy and different to deny this movie all the way through. Both movies are good to me. It's time to smoke a joint with some dark chocolate now.
Mariwonka chocolate fact: eating dark chocolate 45 minutes prior to smoking can prolong and enhance your high. Careful, though. Too much can make you paranoid, so go slow.

I really did not like the actor choice for Charlie in this one- He was good in roles like Bates Motel where his awkward emotionless presence worked but Charlie in the OG Felt like a real Kid with real emotions all over the place. The OG is Magic while this one was simply a mildly entertaining Tim Burton revisioning that's not really worth a rewatch imo, I don't think it intended to compete in anyway with the OG. Cheers!!

I always thought it was weird how depp played wonka like Micheal Jackson lol. Tim burtons style just doesn’t work for wonka imo.

Gene Wilder (the first Wonka) thought the newer version was an insult. He said Johnny was a good actor but he didn't like the director (Tim Burton). Wilder thought of it as a cash grab. Unfortunately, Wilder died from Alzheimer's, I would have loved to see his opinion on the movie Wonka with Timothée Chalamet.
Personally, I grew up on Wilder's Wonka so it'll always be my favorite but I do love Burton as a director overall and of course Depp as an actor. I also agree with Wilder that the movie was a cash grab. They took an already great and beloved story, "modernized it" for the current generation, slapped a slightly different title on it and threw it out knowing that Depp's popularity would sell it.

This one is just… too silly? Idk I enjoyed it for what it is (not much), and I can’t help but to compare this to the OG, which is a masterpiece IMO. I like how you did the two movies back to back, that made for a much more fun watch!

@Mr.Video hi Leo, I absolutely agree with you 100% I remember watching the original with my children and it was such fun. But Tim Burton as a director is very odd. He always uses Johnny Depp and the actress who played the mama movies back in the old days had strict timelines and budgets, and they looked for the most talented writers and singers, actors and actresses. They knew they had to make a winning show and they used all the emotion in context that helped us connect to the characters and the story. Tim Burton like with Edward Scissorhands all his movies feel very cold and detached even when they’re supposed to be emotional.I love the movies from my era 1950s through the 80s much better quality!

August Rush is a fantastic rom com that came out shortly after this starring the kid that plays Charlie. He's a musical savant trying to find his musical genius parents through the music he hears every where. He also meets Robin Williams along the way...would be great for weirdguy. ✌️

Gotta wrap up the Willy Wonka movies and watch 'Wonka (2023)'
It's a pretty fresh movie which i know you don't really watch but still a good vibe. I'd say it's better than this one but worse than the 70s one.

This movie gets way too much hate. I think I prefer the OG a little bit more, but this one went it's own way, did it's own thing without trying to copy the original. Roald Dahl really didn't like the 1972 movie but his widow gave Tim Burton her blessing to make this when he ran his script and designs by her.

As the guy who personally requested both of these on discord for the last year or so i just want to say thanks for watching these 2 classics. I know the original one has a tendency to put the new one to shame especially when you watch the 2 consecutively like you did, but they're both great movies in their own right. Again thank you for listening to your fans and being who you are Leo. EDIT: alright we get it everyone no one can best Gene wilder at his own game but the amount of people who are genuinely upset over something as petty as the lack of practical effects is just stupendous.

I do agree with you. The way that I saw it though was the first one was more about Charlie story. And this one was more about Wonka story. In both movies I feel like are great with storyline because the first one we got to see more about Charlie story and his character change. This one we saw the same with Willy. We got to see his background and where he came from and why he was the way he was. And in the end he got his dad back but he got a whole entire new family also. It brought everyone back together in this one. For me I think they are both great in their own right. The first one though is just a classic. And you are right there is something about the originals and the older movies. That gives you emotion. This one it was more in Depp and Tim Burton style. Both have amazing meaning. And different.
