Leo so are you going to start star trek journey through all movies with captn kirk and spock to captn Picard and then newer star trek ones , ? That's cool yes I'm die hard star wars fan but I enjoy these just as much very entertaining and special effects get better over time enjoy em my man. I cant remember what episode of starwars left on but you'll get to them , and starwars series are really good despite people complaining but just have watch see what you think

I've come to appreciate this film more over time. It has a very Star Trek storyline, if that makes any sense. It also highlights the quality of the series when this is one of the worst ones. On balance, I think the Star Trek franchise is the most consistent scifi franchise in terms of the movies they produced. The fanbase doesn't seem to hate them or be divided on the various films like we've seen in other franchises.

This is a film that I've come to appreciate more over time as it has one of the best pure Star Trek storylines from the movies. This film also highlights what sets Star Trek apart from a lot of other science fiction franchise. We get to see humanity at its best and there's always a message of hope for an undiscovered future.

Hey leo you should try out The Maze Runner series, or The Hunger games series. Also Rise, Dawn, war and kingdom of the planet of the apes are all really good!!

Wow, the original!
Have a feeling you'll like the 2010s Chris pine versions more.
But star trek/ star wars started the space/sci fi genre... and the day the earth stood still.

They took more inspiration from 2001 and Close Encounters for this movie...that slow place of discovery. I'm glad it isn't all laser battles and high fives, but both the original TV series and The Next Generation had a great balance between fun, sci fi, and friendship.

This is a good start. When I was a kid I started Star Trek with the movies. Was around when Next Generation started. Highly recommend the next 3 films as they make a great Trilogy and are all top notch.
If you do get into the actual TV Shows, they are a bit Goofy at times but also very well done. Great Scifi. Star Trek could be a good series to follow after you complete Always Sunny.
After Star Trek 6 I would recommend watching Star Trek the Next Generation or select episodes of it before continuing the movies, should you continue.

I agree. Watching Next Generation, then the related movies was how I feel most ppl born in the 80s started. Back then the retro versions of shows wasn't as readily available as today so a kid like me ignored the old shows because ... they were old.

This one is kinda tough. It's been out so long, I didn't watch the show regularly, but it was always on any night so I of course caught plenty of episodes. Mainly Next Generation. The movie where they go back in time was what got me into it fan wise.
But having zero star trek experience and going into their 1st movie might be super difficult. I own this and a few other ST movies but it's still hard to get into.

ok, well between this and White Men Can't Jump, I'd like to humbly recommend Renaissance Man from the early 90s.
Danny Devito teaches english to some army recruits - Mark Wahlberg, Stacy Dash, and the kid from A Bronx Tale (also a banger movie for your list if you haven't seen it). Danny's daughter is played by the mom from Ted.

Paramount plus put out the directors cut a few years ago way way better movie. They redid the original print of the movie in 4K re did the special effects and cut the movie better. It is worth watching imo I think it flows a lot better

The directors cut is 20x better and fixes most of the problems. The original version which is what this is, is rough in some places but bad? No one considers this movie the worst movie of all time. The effects are ass though, which if this was the directors cut would have fixed.

Thank you for giving star trek a shot leo! You may not enjoy the older stuff like most people and that's okay, theres alot of star trek things to try out, old and new!
This feels like a miracle that you did this reaction and I'm hyped as hell, definitely loading up with a fat doink on this one 😆

Ayyy lol thanks for doing this bro you really are the goat most reactors just do the terrible new ones. If you continue on with this series you’re in for a hell of a ride. Wrath of kahn is next and it’s arguably the best in the series and a must watch. For additional context, I highly recommend watching the original series episode space seed, it gives the entire backstory. Again really appreciate you Leo!
