2025-01-16 11:58:56 +0000 UTCi think there's a misunderstanding of what woke is. it used to mean understanding how corrupt our government is. then it got morphed into supporting lgbt and diversity, ususally exploited in a cynical way to avoid talking about more important issues left and right culture war crap is a distraction used to divide. real satire pierces through and makes fun of both "sides", and punches UP at the people manipulating us. some cultural conservatives hate the later seasons saying it got woke and others say "oh they were making fun of you all along and you just didn't realize" i don't identify with either but if you consider yourself culturally on the left, having a show punch down on cultural conservatives and inflate your own tribal identity is not clever satire. that is kinda what the show has become. rob/mac has said he listens to NPR and bases the gang to be the opposite of what good polite liberals should be like lol but he does in fact agree with those stances. the problem is NPR is corporate owned and they have A LOT of blind spots. just like fox news has blind spots. south park is better at taking a birds eye view and making fun of everyone when they're being foolish. remember the old sunny "do i want a republican who's blasting my ass or a democrat?" more and more the later seasons are just about punching down on one side. some of it is pretty subtle. like these episodes right here are great. and overall it's still much better than most shows.

Its social/identity politics, so the comments are alittle crazy. I hope the show hasnt gone woke. Woke and comedy dont mix well because woke ideology is worried about offending people/protected classes and being canceled. They have strict limits to what that can make fun of. The gang is pretty open about equally offending everyone that ive saw so far. Im only as far as you in the show, so i hope it continues...being offensive.

2025-01-16 03:32:23 +0000 UTCLeo, starting the next season, here's the game you need to play when you watch: after each episode, tell us if you think The Gang wrote it, or people on their writing staff wrote it. Honestly, the best way to explain the show in it's most recent seasons: the best episodes are the ones that Rob, Charlie, Glenn and Hornsby were 'lead writers'. The not so great ones were all written by some of the other writers that aren't involved on screen/newer to the staff. Woke isn't really the right word to describe it, it's just written by 'outsiders' so to speak. Kinda like I said in my last post, all of The Gang had a bunch of other projects going on during some of this time, so they weren't as heavily involved in writing as they had been throughout most of the show IMO, the best episodes in show history are written by David Hornsby, aka Cricket. That continues in newer seasons. Such an underrated part of the show over the years.
