My dad’s dad fought in WWI and was awarded a medal for bravery, but he never really recovered from the things he saw and did. He died young, of alcoholism, before I was born. The war was called “the meat grinder” because both sides were just feeding soldiers into it to see - as McKenzie says - who will be the last man standing. So many of them had no idea why they were fighting. It was a bloodbath. My grandfather’s binoculars in their leather case had his initials scratched into the case in pencil. I have held those old binocs and tried to imagine what he saw through them. This film, along with All Quiet On The Western Front, gave me a vivid idea of what it must have been like for my grandfather. And why he drank to forget. Btw, Lt Blake there at the end is Robb Stark from Game of Thrones.

The 1st one I noticed was after they went around that watery crater, then climbed up the other side, just before they make it to the enemy Frontline. As the big rock passes in front of the camera, THAT'S the cut. The rest are like that too. Any point where no characters are on screen, that's the second its transitioning to the next cut. Makes me respect the director Slash writer Slash producer even more for not only making the movie, but making it so well. Hope they got some awards and Oscar's because they put in the work.

I was born here in Alaska in 1945 after the red army USSR finally eliminated Hitler losing 27 million people in the process. Most from more but many more from starvation disease and many other nations sacrificed so many. Sadly, the US was the last to join the war and funded both sides. we immigrated from Norway, where we were liberated either red army we immigrated to Alaska where I was born. I will be 81 and the stories from my grandfather and father were never told or talked about unless they were alone on the porch having a heart to heartover glass of whiskey. What we are doing now in the same area with the same people involved is for nothing more than rare earth, minerals, and for corporations that are now purchasing the destroyed lands of the Ukraine.
