I’m at the end of the pod when the camp was liberated by the Red Army- I listen to the Gulag Archipelago to fall asleep, Americans need a refresher on how fucked up the Russians truly are. The gulags were just as bad as concentration camps and they rounded up random people and snitched on their neighbors just to fill quotas. Living in a state of fear for generations is beyond our comprehension. Red soldiers who survived POW camps abroad and sent home were killed by their own government as a thank you for their service bc they had seen what it was like in other countries. They’re just wired differently, we do not want to be buddies or trust them under any circumstances, it blows my mind how we’re divided as a country if it’s cool to dig Russia or not- it’s not. The Bloodlands by Timothy Snyder (fav historian) does a fantastic job talking about the eastern front, highly recommended. Great pod, thank you
