Monster Essays: Gorgons

Another one of these shorties. Gorgons aren't the sluttiest things around but they're a neat race to mess around with.  I even waited to introduce a half-gorgon in Goblin Teens before committing to how they worked. I'm confident there are males who work on the same rules, but I'm always less quick to add male characters in general.

Forbidden Beauty. History of Gorgons

By the time humanity (or the humanoid population, at that point) discovered gorgons, they had been in isolation for centuries. They lived on a secluded beach island where they remained out of sight to avoid causing issues for others. Through a process still not fully understood, gorgons’ eyes give off a famous type of effect that turns flesh into stone. The curse is reversable with a bite from their serpentine hair, but continued eye contact will just repeat the process. Few humans made contact with them over time, and those who stumbled across them were generally removed while petrified and restored as they left them confused in their new location.

It was the scrying of demons and elves that truly discovered the gorgons. They were so far unseen, and a strange hybrid of human and snake that had settled in on a Greek island. Gorgons vary from green to brown skin with thin scales around their outer arms and legs, but remain almost universally beautiful. Most notable, gorgons possess snake-like appendages instead of hair. These come complete with eyes, mouths and fangs, but they are not properly alive or intelligent. They are closer to tentacles or tails on a gorgon than additional creatures.

The exact source of the vision is hard to trace, but legends and loose gorgon history has led most to assume it was a curse placed on Medusa, an especially vain gorgon queen from ancient history. Elves more familiar with magic briefly experimented with the concept before learning that unfiltered eye to eye contact was required for the stoning to take effect. The use of thick enough glasses was enough to allow gorgons to freely join the rest of the world.

Gorgons became a thing of interest right away. The semi-reptilian creatures were conventionally attractive to any race, and their discovery and relative scarcity compared to other races made them that much more exotic. With their reclaimed pride of not being ashamed of their appearance, gorgons approached the world head on and embraced it. Their already fashionable tastes quickly ran with their new accessories, making colored glasses, unique visors or specially made contact lenses. This was compared by some to goblins wearing brightly colored clothing to stand out after hiding for so long. Between their taste for fashion and exceptional looks, gorgons were often pursued as models or even fashion designers.  It’s estimated that over 50% of their growing population has a career that involves their looks if not fully related to fashion.

Despite their reptilian features, gorgons are effectively mammals. They are one of the species able to crossbreed with humans as well as several other races, making their evolutionary origins unclear. Given their naturally appealing looks, many races enjoy gorgons as partners and they have an easy option in becoming prostitutes.

Along with their arrival came a tangible fetish for petrification. What was already subject to fetish art became real as some sought the feeling of being turned to stone. While the experience is described as falling asleep or spacing out, it seems that the body is still able to vaguely feel what happens to it. A particular kink for those with gorgons is known as “stoning,” where a person is petrified, then their statue stroked, teased or otherwise sexually used. When the gorgon returns them to normal, the creature experiences all of these feelings at once as the brain catches up to the present time.

Whatever means of attraction they use, gorgons remain on good terms with other races. They seem glad to have broken their seclusion and while they hold some awkwardness or shyness from their mystical vision, many gorgons live happy and successful lives. They have expanded well beyond Greece as their numbers and influence grow. They are a prime example of humanity opening their minds to other races conditions and needs. They were going to need it before long.

Please tell me you are planning to write a story centered around "stoning", it sounds really interesting!
