MINT SOLO PATREON EPISODE!

Thank you for the solo chat, Minto! I've never heard of Komugi at all, so I ought to at least check it out. The artwork does look very cute! I remember watching Saikano long ago, maybe in college. I really should rewatch it, especially since you remember so many parts of it. I hadn't heard of the tunnel anime, but luckily I had time tonight to watch it (on Hulu!) before listening to your spoilery parts! 90-minute movies do have a different feel to them. They have to get to the point really quickly, and that's likely why the narrative went so fast -- why Kaoru just knew a lot of things right away. As for figuring out that the tunnel is a "lost things" place, I figure he concluded that on the night before he entered. At that point, Anzu had already told him about her job offer with the editor, so I think he was thinking of ways to solo the tunnel and keep her out of it. It also didn't quite make sense if his sister had died already, but yet he's finding her shoe and the bird in there. It's not like she went mysteriously missing (i.e. was still alive and went inside the tunnel many years ago), which is what I thought the plot was going to be at first. So the tunnel really was kind of a coping place for lost things. I also got the impression that Anzu would be an old lady by the time he comes back out, but instead they leave with an 8-year age gap that is .. manageable for a relationship I suppose. But like you said, the movie conveniently ends before they have to deal with the reality of Kaoru still being so young in a world where it's probably better that his dad thinks he's gone missing for good. It took 8 years for Anzu to receive that text and run into the tunnel after him, but she stayed with him until he woke up. And when they left the tunnel together, he said it was 13 years total. So she spent an extra 5 years in there with him, not 1! That's quite a hiatus for the mangaka. Her manager told her to take a break, but he probably didn't expect that long, lol. I also kinda snorted at his joke that his 10-second kiss with her in the tunnel equated to 6.5 hours of realtime kissing. I guess he's into older women now. Ultimately he was able to get over the death of his sister. I guess that was the tunnel's purpose all along, and he didn't need to bring her out of there (if he even could). The sister convinced him to appreciate life, too, so he rushed back out there to the girl he'd known for just over a month. It was good enough for a short film. I agree with you it was very pretty. I like the scenery and the music, though I felt their budget was also limited, since there were a lot of still scenes. I don't think that was an artistic choice, but they made it work. Thank you for the recommendation!!

I love Minto Yapperino! Let's see... My Oldie but a Goodie has to be Muteki Kanban Musume, a comedy-action romp about violent food delivery girls, street fights, and lots of throwback references. Sort of a comfort show of mine. Underrated: Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun - Unbelievably well-timed and delivered jokes as a love story unfolds (sort of) about the world's best shoujo manga writer being an extremely dense guy and his wacky friends/character inspirations. Most Recent: Dungeon Meshi. I'm a simple man, I see capable-but-dorky elf, I watch.
