------

Hello friends and supporters. The Foundry Virtual Tabletop team is proud to share the official release of our very first in-house adventure, The Demon Queen Awakens

This adventure takes place in an ancient, thousand-year old vault hidden in the middle of a burning desert, where a band of fearless heroes will do battle with an ancient evil on the brink of escaping their millennia old prison.

We are very excited to have completed this project, and look forward to hearing how you enjoy the harrowing journey into the Vault of Aten to battle a thousand year old, immortal conqueror!

Getting Access to the Adventure

The adventure is now available to purchase from https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/390911/The-Demon-Queen-Awakens. Once you have purchased the adventure, you will be able to install "The Demon Queen Awakens" from the module installation browser inside Foundry Virtual Tabletop.

Improvments in the Final Release

With the end of the playtest phase of this adventure we’ve fully updated The Demon Queen Awakens to work in Foundry Virtual Tabletop Version 9, leveraging this new version’s power and features as immersive and exciting as possible!

The Demon Queen Awakens has come a long way since it first debuted during our anniversary celebration, and the number of changes are too many to list in detail, but there are four major changes for this update that we’ll talk about below.

Adventure Importer

Firstly, The Demon Queen Awakens has been changed from a premade world to a full self-contained module that can be imported into any existing world, whether it’s brand new, or one that hosts an ongoing campaign. This was done to allow game masters to decide how they want to tackle the adventure.

To do this, the adventure comes in the form of a unique Adventure Compendium which contains the entirety of the module, and when opened, launches an importer dialog that gives a rundown of the adventure content and some options on how that content should be imported.

From this menu you can have it set up the adventure’s macros in your hotbar, load the initial screen, open the introduction journal entry, and even customize the world’s login page with the adventure’s unique art and world description!

For users that already have the original demon queen playtest world installed, you can import the updated adventure over it, and it will bring everything in line with the most current version. Though as a word of warning: it will reset scenes in use, overwrite journals, and reset actors, so make sure you won’t lose any important changes if you do this.

Improved Lighting

For the official release of The Demon Queen Awakens the lighting of the dungeon and final arena of the adventure have been completely overhauled to take advantage of V9’s new adaptive lighting engine and the power that it brings.

Every light in the adventure has been changed, making the gloomy and deadly Vault of Aten even more atmospheric and beautiful than before. Explore dark halls barely lit by failing torchlight, plunge into arenas bathed in unnatural darkness, or battle evil foes in swirling smoke!

Updated Encounters

During the playtest phase we received a good amount of feedback from the community, and used that to tune the adventure’s numerous boss battles so that they would hit that sweet spot of challenge and fairness for the players, while not bogging down the game master with too much to track at any one time.

This feedback resulted in every boss receiving some sort of adjustment, ranging from readability fixes for their features, ability damage tweaks, whole feature revisions, and even whole new powers to help them really put the skills of the heroes to the test!

Expanded Journals

With the completion of the playtest we’ve gone back and updated the journals, fixing typos, reworking sections to improve clarity, and even creating whole new entries to fill in gaps that got pointed out during playtesting. As of the V9 update the journals are absolutely packed with useful information for game masters to draw on when running the adventure.

Now The Demon Queen Awakens comprises 47 distinct journal entries and contains over 40,000 words in them. This includes lore, history, dozens of room descriptions, character dossiers, quest breakdowns, and more!

Comments

Is there the possibility of a PDF for this?

ItsScottish

Is this the type of thing that likely to be added in Journals v2? To make it easier for non programmers to do this type of thing in Journals? Love the module by the way - I cant wait to add it into my game. :)

Mushie

Hi Jérôme, the module contains some special CSS which includes custom styles for journal entries associated with the DQA adventure. We add a special CSS class selector to each journal entry and then target that selector for some custom styles of elements. You can find what we are doing by looking at the contents of the modules/demon-queen-awakens/demon-queen.css file.

Amazing adventure. Great job ! Could i ask you how you've made this beautiful journal entry with text box with multiple color and this other stuff in note's layout ?

Jérôme Lenois

I think it's unlikely that we would create an adventure specifically targeting a D100 system at this time. We love the diversity of game systems that people play on Foundry VTT, but for ones which have a significant minority of players it's going to be necessary to ask those users to do a conversion themselves as it would not be feasible for us to provide it.

Foundry Virtual Tabletop

I'm sure if you think about it for a minute you can understand why this was initially released for 5e. We are interested in working on a pf2e conversion that could be made available at a later date now that we have achieved this milestone. No promises, but it's certainly possible.

Foundry Virtual Tabletop

Will foundry release something for us that prefer BRP systems and D100?

C T

Can we please have this adventure for pf2e? Why must it always be 5e
