November 2028 | Hayley is Dining with Roger Page 1

Hayley follows Roger into a bar and listens to the friendly greeting he shares with Floyd, the locale’s bartender. “You know him?” She asks.

“Yeah, we went to high school together. I’ll have to catch up with him sometime.” The pair head to the back of the room, Hayley’s height drawing stares from the bar’s patrons.

“You know how I feel about the cutesy stuff, Roger…” Hayley says, crossing her arms as her ‘charming’ boyfriend offers her a seat.

“I know you like it on occasion, figured I’d crack a joke this time.” The pair take their seats and enjoy the date. The bartender Floyd comes over with menus and soon returns with drinks. Roughly a half hour after placing an order for food he returns once again to deliver club sandwiches.

“A BLT for Roger… and four turkey clubs for the giant woman.” Hayley welcomes the remark in her usual abrasive way.

“I can see why Roger likes you. You’re both comedians.” Chuckles all around, Hayley accepts the basket and sits as neatly as she can at the undersized table. The more she’s grown, the more she’s enjoyed the difficulty that has come with being over eight feet tall… even moreso in the platform boots she sports.

“So… Back to what we were saying, Roger. I think I owe it to Daisy to help her solve these feelings. She means a lot to me… And I think I’d like to know my own feelings on it too. Trust me, I love you. You’ve nearly idolized me… I don’t know how to express it, but maybe this is a moment we see if I’m worth your feelings.

“Hayley… by no means do I think you aren’t giving this deep, considerate thought. But I have to know the contingency plan for the most obvious result… What if you both fall in love?”

Roger continues. “I doubt there’s anything I can do to stop what’s already in motion, if you both like each other and I’m to be left behind I guess I-”

With a clatter, Hayley’s chair falls backwards as the amazon leans forward and takes Roger’s hand. “No, Roger. I won’t do that to you, you’re too important to me. I feel like I have to do this but… I won’t if you feel hurt. If… If I do fall for Daisy, we’ll still make this work. Somehow."

Without a care of the eyes now on them, Roger looks up at his big girlfriend. “Wow… I… alright, I trust you… And Daisy is lucky to have a friend like you. …Any clue what the plan is?”

Letting out a slow sigh, Hayley begins to feel better. “I think so… Are you out of the house next week?”
