The Berserk wine produced for Young Animal's 7th anniversary
Added 2022-05-04 22:57:17 +0000 UTCYoung Animal is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month (May 2022). It's not the first time it holds a little event for the occasion. In 1999, a lottery was announced in Young Animal #10, dated May 28, to celebrate the magazine's 7th anniversary.
The first two prizes were Berserk-themed wine bottles. Red wine for Guts, white wine for Casca. 200 bottles of each type were made available. They were produced by Mercian, a Japanese wine maker that's a subsidiary of Kirin.
I managed to get my hands on one of the Casca bottles a long time ago. Unfortunately, sending alcoholic beverages internationally from Japan is close to impossible, so I never had the opportunity to taste the wine itself. If you're curious, it's a chardonnay B (originated in Burgundy) with 14% alcohol content.
I have less information about the Guts bottle unfortunately, and not too many high quality pictures of it either. That said, it was probably a merlot.
As a side note, Young Animal held a little "festival" of gag comics for the occasion, for which Kentarou Miura published a 4 panel comic strip, called "The Great Impact Cat" (ザ グレート インパクト キャット). I'll have to post about it at some point!

It's cool to me that the labels so clearly evoke that section of the series to me. Too bad you never got to taste it!
