Memories about Miura-sensei
It was 2010 when I met him first.
At that time, I was a completely obscure mangaka
It’s the same now though…
Even with no major ((well-known) work.
Onomatopoeia: Teeth chattering
<< Editor-san
In this situation, I got to draw a manga about a raid-like coverage of the popular mangaka in Young Animal.
And Miura-sensei was the first (subject) of my serialization.
(I felt like I was meeting) the last boss in the first battle.
On the day of the coverage, entering the workshop of Miura-sensei
Onomatopoeia: frozen solid
He welcomed us cheerfully with a very casual look
Miura: Welcome

To me, who was nervous and stiff, he offered some buckwheat tea.
I remember its warmth relieved me well.
Footnote: This comic was first posted on Twitter on May 20th, but it was retouched when it was published (in Young Animal).

In his workroom, many drawing materials like the brushes and paints he had used for a long time were scattered around.
On the walls, a lot of references were pasted.
Nico Nicholson: There’s really nothing except things to draw everywhere.

Miura: This place is like the Galapagos Islands.
Miura: It feels like time has stopped.
Nicho Nicholson: Indeed…
Nico Nicholson: I see, this is where Berserk is being born.
I remember I oddly understood it like that.
I went to cover sensei several times.
He always listened attentively to my clumsy questions.
Sparing no effort, he kindly gave me the answers that would be the roots of my manga.
Anyway, I was desperate to conform with his thoughts!
Nico Nicholson: What interesting remarks!
Nico Nicholson: Not even one can be missed!
Onomatopoeia: Furiously taking notes
(He said) Even if the art is clumsy, it’s OK as long as the important parts are not spoiled!
Note: Of course, it would’ve been great if I had had a tape recorder run but (I didn’t because) it might have spoiled the atmosphere…
