Remembering Kentarou Miura

Dear patrons, thank you as always for your support.

As you must have heard, it was announced on Thursday, May 20, that Kentarou Miura, the genius author of Berserk, had passed away at the age of 54. He left us on May 6 due to an acute aortic dissection, a vascular disease that is rare, sudden and has a high mortality rate. The official announcement indicates that he was cared for, watched over and transported to the hospital as soon as he collapsed.

This tragedy came as a shock to his family, friends and colleagues as well as to all his fans. While he was a hard-working man and had had periods of overworking in his thirties, he had been taking care of his health for the past 15 years. Yoshihiro Kurosaki, his lead assistant, took to Twitter to reiterate that Miura was physically and mentally healthy, that he had no chronic illness, and that he ate healthily and regularly exercised.

Young Animal’s obituary emphasized that he was a kind and joyful man, always full of ideas. And I want to emphasize that he had indicated in recent interviews that he was taking care of himself specifically because he was intent on finishing Berserk properly.

His untimely disappearance has been very hard on us. Getting over it is a process that will take an unknown amount of time. But we intend to continue with the Patreon for now, if there is still interest in it. We still feel duty-bound to honor what is now Miura's legacy.

We have recorded a difficult and emotional episode of the SkullKast on this occasion. It is available here.

It's just so sad. Everything is a little bit muted at the moment. ❤
