2025-02-23 16:38:23 +0000 UTCI haven't watched too many and I tend to avoid the more "out there" concepts (with "Darling in the Franxx" being the exception) and saw Kancolle back in 2019, had a major crush on Nagato wich lasted for a long time and that caused me to craft this headcannon as calling the characters "warships getting hit with the japanizing beam and thus turning into anime girls" concept was on the weirder side.

2025-02-23 16:03:57 +0000 UTCMaybe, the main objective for my headcannon was fitting the Kancolle anime into our world as best I can. Essentially the shipgirls were volunteers into a Navy project called the "Kantai Program"; the would be one man warships with the objective to scare as much pirates on the south east asian sea as possible using their one man unit concept as an advantage against said pirates. Floatation would be provided by special boots fitted with jet-ski style water jets, however the limits of the technology didn't allow males to use them as they were too heavy and women were light enough to carry enough equipment without overwhelming the boots. All the girls got callsigns corresponding to ww2 era warships; some "classes" wee actually made up of sailors who were actual relatives (Nagato and Mutsu and the "Kongou sisters" were such cases). The program seemed promising at first, however issues in heavy seas and a lack of redundancy in floatation devices and safety equipment got the project cancelled after just a year or so of active combat, with the sailors going their own separate ways (Nagato for example, the daughter of a high ranking admiral, would wind up as the general secretary of a large naval base and would be a major help in streamlining operations, earning herself a rank of captain). Granted its not the best of headcannons, with the biggest plothole being the uniforms, and their weird and colorful designs, but it makes a tad bit more sense, than a sudden invasion of nautical alien species, that calls for such warfare to be called upon.

2025-02-23 15:17:11 +0000 UTCTo be honest that was a bit much for me, I found Kongou's obsessive love for the admiral hilarious, but the NagatoxMutsu incest hints were too much, however I used that to craft a headcannon static that Mutsu teases her sister with the purpose to open up and let more room for her feelings.

2025-02-23 14:46:02 +0000 UTCMostly, she sounds similarly stoick in the game and the anime as well, but her softer, "nagamon" expressions are softer and her voice is deeper in the "in game" rendition. I also thankfully hadn't found any hints at the incestious romance between her and sister (Mutsu) in the voice lines, that was the biggest thing I disliked about the anime.
