[Guide] Using isometric maps on Fantasy Grounds and Roll20

Hello adventurers!

Do you need some help to setup your isometric adventures? Fear no more! Here is a little guide to help you using isometric maps and tokens in two of the most famous virtual tabletop software: Fantasy Grounds and Roll20! 

The guide will use two special tokens (attached to the post), which can be used to measure distances in virtual tabletops where the isometric grids are not supported.

The movement token can be used to measure distances on the maps. It's made to be used putting in its center a medium creature token, but can also be used to measure distances from bigger tokens by putting it near the side of the creature, in the direction you want to measure.

The radius token can be used to measure the area of spells and effects. It comes with indications for circles and 90° cones. It is used by placing the center of the token on the origin of the spell and it lets you select the targets easily.

And now on to the guide!

Fantasy Grounds:

• Load the map in the campaign folder
• Put a token on the map to define the default scale. Change the zoom level with the scroll wheel and, when the correct value is found, right click on the token and lock the token scale

• You can now place the other tokens and the distance tokens on the map. Once placed, everyone can use it

• Players can use it by dragging it on their characters. On Fantasy Grounds, once placed, the tokens underneath are selectable by default, so it doesn't cover them.

• Use a cone spell! Who am I kidding? Just spam fireball!

Roll20:

• Create a new map and go to the options
• Define the dimension of the map and turn off the grid (we suggest you use the same number of pixels of the maps created with our assets. This way you'll be able to use our tokens without resizing them)

• Load the background image and resize it so it takes the whole map
• Put all the tokens, including the distance tokens on the map.
• Right click and send to back the distance tokens, so they're always under the other tokens.

• Cast some spells!
