After Show: Talking about my drum heroes.

Boy I love the drums aye.

After Show: Talking about my drum heroes.

Comments

Man, I listen to rush to help motivate me to practice (bass trombone player) and to hear you talk about all these cool drummers! All of my jazz instructors always stress about how important it is to have a hero or at least to know the big names for style and sound purposes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome to just like music, but I’ve never been able to see someone geek out about their own instrument’s people before. Thanks for sharing!

Travis barker and Josh dunn were the most influential in helping develop my style of drumming, heck I even studied the drums at uni for two years

RIP Peart. Still my favorite (and arguably the best) drummer of all time. Also a really good lyricist.

My drum hero (I know my opinion doesn't matter but hey who cares) has got to be either Dale Crover or Neil Peart. Crover was so ahead of his time in the late 80s/early 90s it's not even funny. Despite the real lo-fi mixing of Bullhead, his performance on that album is unmistakable. And he played such a massive set it would put sets today to shame.

Ryan

Hell yeah, man. My dad was a drummer so I knew about all these guys growing up. He loved Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Peart, Bonham, and Tony Williams. I was just listening to Dennis Chambers' "Planet Earth" the other day. I lost my dad a few years ago, but I still have his 1972 Rogers kit. Cased up and in a closet for now since I'm in an apartment. But I hope I can move somewhere soon and sit down and learn to play them. I wish I had played on them more seriously when I was a kid, but I was more into guitar and saxophone.

Joe Blankenship

Damn, dimi ya missed the obvious joke

Middle Class Bogan

totally down!!!

More drum videos please. Thank you

With the drummer he talked about in this video you're surprised he didn't talk about GROHL? Not to diss the guy, but man, I'm going to infer you're not a drummer.

I'm surprised you didn't talk about Dave Grohl!

Him telling me to do the thing hit hard. Buddy knows

I’m just happy you talked about Ringo

The drums in many genres is a big part of what got me into seriously listening to music. Remember hearing Rush's Xanadu in an audio store demo at a very young age and the rhythm of the drums is what stood out the most for me.

I am not a drum nerd personally, but my younger stepbrother absolutely is! Now I know what to get him for Christmas next year! It’s always so hard to buy for him

Are you gonna upload, it has been my 6th time watching nano bootleg extravaganza. You are my bed time story, if you know wha t I am saying.

I am curious if Ian paice is in there

https://youtu.be/_O4WbPRsFb8 Dank you have to watch this man it's shark build out of rubix cubes lol

I love your videos and was wondering if you could maybe do some type of review or comparison of the speakers that are in smart device things like Alexa and google home/nest and stuff.

holly cutts

Love it

Man I’ve got to get my hands on that book- amazing video as always

this was the best ur adorable

Jaid Saviero

This video was awesome, thank you for sharing

seeing you talk about the drums with passion fills me with life

I know nothing about drums but that was entertaining af

I'm surprised he didn't talk about Phill Collins

NarlaxIV

as a drummer myself I always love hearing you talk about drums and drumming stuff! I'm excited to see what you're working on with all of that!

Crazy Sticks

linustechtips just spoiled that dankys coming to floatplane!

helly

How are the nuggets coming along? (Ya cars), I love seeing your car updates!!

he skipped over Mike Portnoy :'(

Envalyd

You should show us that poster

Watching people being passionate about their passion is the best. Thanks mate!

I first learned about Gene Krupa from the Simpsons / the Out of Ideas video in his Dankmus channel. apparently he goes boom boom boom, bam bam bam, boom boom boom boom bam bam bam

I played drums in High School. I have a Pearl drum set in my parent's house. I honestly haven't played in a while.

Eric Siegel

Thirty. Eight. Thousand. Dollars.

Damn man, as a drummer myself - let me tell you, when I found out that you are also a drummer it was like receiving a yearly bonus. Love your drum content

Gene Krupa looking like he is going to finish drumming and then go save the world as Bond..... James Bond

Kinglostsouls Studios

I just became a patreon and goddamn the quality you get for $1.50. When im no longer sick and can work again ill be moving up a patreon tier thats for sure!

Rye Bread

Chambers is one of my favorites too. But my top spot goes to Carter Beauford. He deserves to be in that book!

Kapazza

i love the idea of you creatinga drum museum! and the book is awesome, I really enjoyed the video. many greetings from Austria

Can anyone think of any under rated drummers? I'll start. Tre cool

I am so glad to see you enjoy whatever you want and being so passionate, It really makes me happy to be a part of this journey! You and Frank deserve to chase ya dreams <3

You never realize how much you can miss someone you’ve never met until one of your favorite musicians dies. RIP Neal. Can’t wait for the drum museum!

Love it

Heroes*

If my count is correct, this is bonus episode 98.

I'd just like to say that watching your drum videos is part of what's making me wanna start playing percussion instruments!

Dude! I lost it when I saw this book! my dad had it years and years ago. I would just go through it and come up with my own ideas for my set. So cool seeing you go through it!

Speaking of Chad Smith, I went to see RHCP when they came to Louisville, Kentucky back in 2017, One of the opening acts was Jack Irons, their original drummer (He and guitarist Hillel Slovak founded the band with Anthony Keidis and Flea, but left before the first album, Slovak returned for the second, and Irons for the third. Iron left following Slovak's death) who basically did a twenty minute drum solo. Chad killed it when RCHP got on, of course, and before the encore he threw the sticks he had been using to people in the stands, and told us all we were awesome. All three of the long time members (This was before John Frusciante returned again) had some cool stuff to say about how much they liked coming to play in Louisville. It was such a great show, and I really hope to grab tickets for their upcoming tour.

Monty Pla

Here's the Purdie Shuffle he was talking about, and it is delightful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1j1_aeK6WA

Jeffrey O. Gustafson

Not boring! You should link to some other drum videos, it’s really fun!

Lucas Roe

as someone who plays guitar/bass, having a book that tells you about setups of famous musicians would be a lifesaver😅

i want dank to play rush on stream if he hasn't already

This vid is missing Stuart Copeland!! Thoughts?

Also yeh, do the thing!

Carrow

Love this, want more of this! Appreciate the hell out of your drum stuff!

Carrow

No way. Burn the nice candles. Use the nice plates. Enjoy your books. If you're keeping them pristine in some hope of selling them... just get rid, let someone else enjoy them. Live life, you've only got one!

Mat Gadd

Seeing a dog-eared book hurts my soul

I love seeing people geek out about the things that truly make them happy. Whether it's video games, toys, hobbies, watches, etc. Coming from a family of musicians, this speaks to me hard. Dad and brother played guitar, mom played Piano and sang, and I.... Have ADHD and can sing really good in karaoke 😅

Obi-Wan’s Secret Account

This book is a nerdy treasure chest! Revisit this for videos or on your streams, I bet no one would argue about hearing you gush more about this stuff! Stream idea, take it or don't: My friend streams retro gaming stuff all the time and he's got a twitch points redemption option to open a random page in one of his video game history books and talk about it. Sometimes he knows about it and has more to add, sometimes we all learn something new together. It's pretty cool! And it's a new way for us to spend all those channel participation points we were doing nothing with. If you did this, you could have a document camera set up to switch over to. Might be cool! Cheers, m8

Mogo

I want to know his opinion about the St Anger snares

The drummer of my favorite band is also insane, clay aeschliman from Polyphia. Check out their song G.O.A.T. and then the drum/bass solo part 🤌🤌so tight.

Loved the lesson. Got to remember these guys are behind some of the best music ever.

My very very limited knowledge on drums comes from Ian Mathews the drummer from Kasabian, he does a lot of interesting interviews on jazz and that, not a clue what he is saying but he has such a calming voice? 10/10 better than the Calm app.

the BR comment made me re-watch the closing scene Caravan solo on Whiplash! I wonder how many requests for that Wade gets on Twitch!

Grateful Dead on the cover. The band behind THE ORIGINAL Scarlet/Fire.

I’m not very familiar with famous drummers at all, but when Gene Krupa came up I had a moment of recognition. It took me a second to figure out where I had heard his name before, then I realized I heard it in the dankmus song “out of ideas” which has been stuck in my head for weeks.

Me being a complete novice to the drums: haha drum in slomo go boioioioioioing

ScAI-nNET_C

My appreciation for Jazz continues to grow thanks to these insights. My gosh Buddy Rich solo for Caravan was insane!

Simon Green

Could honestly listen to drum history stuff all day. Can't wait for the new Garbage Time content dude, you're killing it <3

Well if you think Chad hits hard, then Eloy Casagrande needs to be mentioned. I would say he's gonna be a modern day drum legend. His power, speed and accuracy are just ridiculous, won the modern drummer "undiscovered drummer" at the age of 15.

Can’t believe you skipped the Mooney pages!!! Blasphemous!

Love the vid. Drums have always been so much fun. Trying to get my son into it!! Two things. It's "drum heroes" ya dingus! LOL ... and where's all the girl drummers? I'd love to hear you recommend one or two!

my dad is a huge drum nerd too, i really wonder if he would like this book! .........ok, update, as im typing that out, my mom just told me that she's buying him the book. btw got my mom into you! you're so funny to her

mmm yoshi

Nick

My favorite drummer has passed away along time ago he was Known as The rev from the band Avenged sevenfold. tell me dank what is your favourite song by them

I was slightly disappointed you didn’t shout out THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE ANIMAL, Keith Moon

Gene Krupa playing Drum Boogie on a matchbox in Ball of Fire is one of the most insane things I've seen in a movie. The man could captivate an audience with just a pair of tiny 2 inch sticks, just nuts

Hannibal Montana

your drum hero's what

Thanks for this week's video about earplugs. Keeping your hearing is very important. The UK deaf charity the RNID has a "Don't lose the music" campaign, worth looking up. Anyone working at loud music events should wear hearing protection. I always wore ear plugs at events. I want to be able to enjoy my music into old age, especially as my father started to lose his hearing in his early 50s.

Olly

mmm animals

Anezlol

mmm drums

Anezlol

Man I never knew how deep the history of drums was, never really thought about drums but this video kinda opened my eyes lol, awesome video keep it up ;)

Inspectah Depressed

Yes, you do need to say more about Rush please

Nick

Man. I saw the patreon notification and didn't have one for the video on youtube and I realized that I'm donating to the patreon without being subbed. Whoops

Blasphazar

It’s not boring when Wade talks about it

Ah, reminds me of how I used to nerd out over guitarists and bassists, and how I still need to get an Ibanez Destroyer taped to my back and scooter it home (if you know, you know).

Lurker Of the Gloom

Dankpods doing for Pkcell what Ringo did for Zildjian.

Neil Peart want human.

Chad Branston

No mention of ol' broof :(

Charlie Dingus

Just noticed you have migrated to floatplane. Hopefully Linus cherishes you more than Dick Rocket Bezos

Nice

"Books eh? The batteries don't run out."

hero is

TIL Ringo was one of the most influential drummers of the 20th Century, mainly because his work led to Zildjian cymbals exploding in popularity. (I really enjoy seeing Dank fully nerding out too)

OzRetrocomp

My personal favorite Drummer is Def Leppard's Rick Allen, because the man got into a car accident and lost his left arm, and to any normal person, that would be the end of your career, but you know what Rick said, "Nah fuck that, I will learn to drum with only one hand" and he did, and he is really good

JokersJuicyAss

Boring time my arse. It's nice hearing about people's passions sometimes.

Quadrant

As a musician AND a drummer :p I loved both of these videos. Seriously cool stuff

Can you try the sound core Liberty 3 pro's?

Larry Mullins Jr.!

oi ole mate dank its actually heroes not hero's

I can't wait for the drum museum Wade!

That was cool

Eoin Curran

Not into drums that crazy but it was very interesting. As a connoisseur of fine metal and rock. I heard live drum solos to adore. I'm surely not an expert but when it hits me on the concerts I'm stunned and carried away.

But no Jack DeJohnette?

Thanks for sharing your inspirations and sharing what you love! It is never boring at all.

Ramen Gonzales

Dank being the Ringo of Mezes.

I love geeking out about things like a specific player's kit. It hurts when others don't find any interest in it

Say what you will, but Phil Collins is the best drummer in my book.

mm the grandpa drumming.

Its a very hard decission, aftershow or regular vid first? Love the videos man!

Same!

Thank you for your videos mate, always puts a smile on my face :D
