Well we're going to work on that. There may be a limitation just for the size of the tumbler. It's clear how far it falls is affecting how much wax sticks to it. We're also discovering if we make the acid even finer and we've been getting better at grinding it more of it sticks on it or at least stays on it. It's probably a mass issue. I've been trying to figure out how much of it is knocked off as we put it in the cans. We're doing this by hand and I'm fairly certain that they weren't packing hundreds of thousands of tins of Candy by hand

We're getting the stuff to stick better. It seems to stick the best when the powder is the finest. So we're still working on improving grinding. We've also had a lot of tumble a bit more than we thought with the wax to get it to stick. It's an inconsistent process and we're figuring out how to duplicate it for consistency between batches. We'll get better. We've only done something like 15 batches so far give us a while and we'll be perfect when we hit 30 or 40.

Got mine today! I am amazed by how close they are to the original! The overall long taste is in my opinion 100% on point. As others have said the only part that is worth messing with more is the outer coating. I remember that part lasting about 5 times longer than these. I am shocked at how good they are and will consume all 10 tins that I bought. If you make updates.. I will likely buy those too! Fantastic job!

I ordered on the 10th so it'll probably be a little longer, but I'll review ASAP!

I'd say #1 focus for improvement is finding out how to get the coating to stick more reliably There was maybe 3-4 pieces that were fully coated and the rest look opaque with a slight dusting (most pieces did have coating on the "inside" of the raspberry shape) Now I don't know anything about making candy but my theory is that the coating has a hard time staying on smooth surfaces, as I notice that the candy which does have more coating has a much more defined raspberry shape with more crevices and bumps That said, the overall flavor of the candy is 11/10. I just want to say congrats on going from concept to product in such a short amount of time. Half of my happiness is from the candy and the other half is seeing the progress go from a YouTube video to reality

Got my tins today and was so excited. It definitely brought me back to 10 years ago when I last had the original. Hard to say how close of a match it is with that old nostalgia memory filter but these are amazing. Maybe even better than the original. I thought the larger size would bother me but I remember I often had 2-3 of the original because they were a little small. With the new ones I feel like 1 is enough. The tangerine flavor comes through perfectly and I think the level of sour is just right on both inside and out. I do still have a tin of the original but unfortunately 10+ years of being in a box in the basement unsealed led the candies to melt together into a goo and turn black on the edges. Overall I am extremely happy. Thank you for bringing back a memory from my high school days. I hope you are successful with these and hope you add some other flavors like black currant.

We were thinking of doing a special edition sugar free version. But possibly different flavor like cherry. Cherry works particularly well with the sugar-free base. I am unsure how tangerine would work. It would also prevent us from confusing the two and shipping sugar to somebody couldn't have it by accident.

Got my tin yesterday and the sour is super strong and lasts well after it turns sweet. I was hoping that the center would be a bit more sour but overall they are great. My tin looked like it was not dinged in but dinged out on the lid. Maybe that is from compressing the candy during packaging. I love the idea of the black currant sour! I know it might be a hard thing to justify making, but is there a chance of a sugar free tangerine sour? I know, I know, it would require a reworking but never hurts to ask. Thanks for all you do!

Order : 2 tins First Order from PD.net Packaging: --> Outside / Mailer: excellent choice. Fit in my mailbox just fine. Using 200 lb test cardboard is a nice touch. You could have easily used a lighter-weight cardboard but I appreciate it. The use of the 3.5 inch tape was nice vs something like a 2 in tape. --> Inside : There was a slight dent on one of the tins ( side ) but I can't say for certain if it was that way before I opened them. We are talking about nothing major. Just mentioning it. --> Invoice in box: I know you block access to your admin portal via IP but I personally would not print headers and footers on my invoices ( people don't need to know the admin url ). Candy: Tangerine flavor: Spot on. Distinctly different from ' orange '. Delicious. Sour: The first hit is there for sure but it quickly fades to the tangerine flavor. I do wish that the sour was a little more present ( 3-5 seconds more ) at the beginning. That being said / Full Disclosure: I can't remember exactly what the Altoids version was like. The sour throughout the candy experience is there and it's more a tangerine candy with sour notes than a sour tangerine hand candy. Texture: You guys know how to make hard candy. Smooth on one side and slightly textured on the other. In allowing it to melt in my mouth, it didn't develop any real sharp edges ( that's a good thing ). Quantity: I don't know if you overfilled these for this first batch but can I just say, I was pleasantly surprised as to how full these tins were. There was a heft to the tin and it made it feel of quality. Packaging ( Outside ): The stickers were perfectly applied. The heat shrink wrap was perfectly shrunk. Great quality on the stickers. Barcode scanned just fine. Packaging ( Inside ) : Some small flecks of candy were on the inside of the tin but nothing major. I mean, you shipped hard candy from Florida to Alabama. I was expecting far more damage. I appreciate the use of a silica packet on the bottom and not just hanging out in the middle when I open the tin. I poured the candy out to look at the bottom pad and a couple of the candies stuck to the pad. Nothing major, I just think they might have been compressed that way. They popped right off. Suggestions: Super Minor: Next batch of logo stickers, I would move the exclamation mark closer to 'memories' Thank you and your team for all the hard work you have put in to this project. - Steven Subscriber since Jan 1 2016

I would love to see photos. If we can improve the packaging process for shipping I'd be thrilled. Please email a podcast at pd.net any photos you have at the condition of the tin. If you have any ideas how it might have got it dented I'd appreciate that too.

Just got mine and they're phenomenal! Like another commentator mentioned, one of the tins was a little dinged up but nothing I'm upset about. Great work Greg :)

I'm trying to in future about this. Is a physical limitation of how much of the powder can stick. I think that there is a possibility that everyone's memory is thinking things were more sour than they were on the outside. And of course they're bigger which means there's more inside and ratio to the outside and I can't do anything about that. It appears that there's a finite amount of acid that can stick basically one thickness all the way around. I'm also finding that the parts that touch the tin have acid that's been knocked off them so they pieces that are more towards the center of the bottom Brown pad tend to be better. It's all learning process and I need as much feedback as I can get.

This is exactly like the tangerine flavor I had when I was a kid. Thank you for this, Greg. My only comment would be to add more sour, I feel as though there used to be more

OMG. I got my packages today. This. Is. My. Childhood. Great job guys! Like my wife said, "It's like eating a tangerine!"

Brian Marsh

Just got mine in the mail and agree the sour was absolutely spot on and thoroughly delightful. The tangerine flavor is definitely stronger than I remember, but makes for a much more enjoyable experience beyond the sour bit (I used to spit them out as a kid after the sour wore off lol).

Just got mine in the mail today an hour or so ago. The sour is just like what I remember back with the originals. The only thing, like Antonio said, is the slightly stronger tangerine taste but in my opinion its better this way. Was like a blast of nostalgia having this, amazing job! Glad I bought two tins, will definitely buy more in the future!

can’t wait for the next drop link!

Only thing I can think of is the taste might be a bit more tangerine than the original. These taste quite literally like a tangerine and I could be wrong but I recall a milder more standard orange taste. Still absolutely amazing and I thank you so much!

Mine arrived in perfect shape! Very nostalgic taste that brings me back to a childhood treat I LOVED. The sour is perfection.

Can you email us a photo of the dinged packaging to podcast@pd.net? I'd appreciate it.

My tin came a little dinged up, but that just gives me more excuse to buy some again! I never had the original, but these candies have really blown me away, I've never had a sour candy quite like it and I've had hundreds over the years. The candy might have been a bit too tightly packed, but that ends up being a good thing too because that means more for me to eat! Y'all have completely outdone yourselves with these.

Controlling how much acid sticks on the outside is a bit of a hit or miss. Trying to learn how to make it consistent. It depends on how much wax sticks first, and that is hard to judge until the acid is on. Mind you once the acid is on, it's too late to apply more wax.

Got mine today and we LOVE them! My one teeny wish is for them to be a little bit more sour, but the texture of the sour dusting is perfect. Not sure how long they were sitting in the hot sun in front of my door, so that may have caused some melt that affected the malic acid. Flavor is perfect, and I'm obsessed with the packaging. I'm definitely buying more for friends and family. #LoftyPursuits

No need. Just wait for the Patreon update. You guys will get it first. If we have some left it will open to the podcast subscribers in the pm. We are taking orders for another 500 tins that day.

Okay thanks for the help! I’ll be refreshing on tuesday the whole day Lol

We hope to open it up again to patreons on tuesday

New to the patreon … just wonder if I can still put and order for the tangerine sours?

I was wondering the same so I checked my order, still only says "order created"

Is there a notification when they are shipped?

Curtis Davis

Some have, about 150 out of 500 orders shipped before friday.

Tuesday, we plan to take orders for the next ones tuesday.

Just looking forward to getting a chance to try em! Little late to the party but I check in to the internet annually to see if anyone has remade them and was overjoyed to find out about your endeavor.

I was wondering if all the first sours shipped out yet? Mine haven’t and I’m so excited to try them!
