April/v0.2 AMAs!
Added 2024-04-14 23:30:06 +0000 UTCHey all! Thanks to everyone for their April/v0.2 Ask-Me-Anything submissions for our development team. Please find the AMA below!
1. Favorite CG?
Pom: It’s so hard to pick because Cobalt’s art never misses, but the Rofi Snow CG on Day 2 is one of my favorites! I also really love the Artemis/MC CG at the end of Day 2 – the lighting in that one is gorgeous.
Noh: The main character looking up at the sky. Easy slam dunk. In tandem with Rene’s music, it perfectly captures the vibes of the whole game.
Cobalt: Oh man, I do love all the CG’s but I think my favorite one I did is probably Artie’s or Theo’s from Day 2! Totally not because those two are my favorite. XD
Rene: The reveal of the snow at the very beginning, it actually gave me goosebumps when I first saw it, accompanied by the music. While I did make the music, I didn’t know how exactly it would be implemented, but the execution; hence my surprise and delight.
Merry: They’re all amazing, but I gotta go with Rofi and MC on the couch on Day 2… it’s just too adorable. And the expressions are perfect.
2. Theo is already pretty great at taking care of his plants, but if he had to have someone there to help take care of his plants, who would it be?
Noh: He wouldn’t unless he had to. He doesn’t really travel or take vacations. If he had to pick someone in the main cast to do it, it would probably be Artemis. He would trust him the most.
3. Do you plan for previous build choices (e.g: v0.2) to affect the possible main choices/paths we can pick in future builds (e.g: v0.3)?
Noh: That honestly depends. If so, it probably won’t make any huge differences. Don’t quote me on that, though.
4. What inspired you to create this project?
Pom: We explained the origin of this project a little in the previous AMA, but in terms of inspiration, I think the team really wanted to create a visual novel that was a departure from a “typical” furry VN. We definitely take inspiration from some of the more well-known VNs in the fandom, but in making PTK, we were looking to build characters with a diverse set of personalities and traits you might not expect (e.g. having Hunter, whose species is typically depicted as scrawnier and small-ish, be a buff gymnast dude). Our character artist, Cobalt, has tried to do something similar in designing the characters (e.g. choosing to vary their body types), and I think the unique combination of characters that make up our cast kind of shows our desire to create this unique project!
Noh: A lot of things. Personal experience, particularly impactful works of art/literature/poetry/video games/movies/tv. Even just daily observations of the people and events around me. Starting from the familiar and working outward from there. When we began the project, I had just left a job in research science, and was looking for a chance to flex my creative muscles more. This was what I settled on. It was really hard to get started, but momentum took over before long. Sometimes it’s still hard to keep the ball moving, but knowing how far we’ve come keeps me optimistic. At the risk of sounding pretentious: Inspiration comes and goes. Hard work is the only thing that can bridge those gaps.
