February/v0.1 AMAs!

Hey all! Thanks to everyone for their February Ask-Me-Anything submissions for our development team. Please find the AMA below!

1. Are there any characters or species you considered during the brainstorming phase that was scraped before final release?

Pom: No one was scrapped necessarily, but we did have a hard time figuring out Rofi’s and Artemis’ breed (of dog and bird, respectively). Fun fact, though: Artemis didn’t actually have a name for most of our early development – we just referred to him as “birb”  because we couldn’t figure out the right name for him initially.

2. What is everyone on staff’s favorite character in the VN?

Noh: Probably Ollie

Pom: Rofi or Hunter!

Cobalt: Artemis!

Rene: Rofi!

Merry: Hunter

3. How would you rank each of the cast’s paws?

Noh: Lmao I know who submitted this.

Pom: Half of the cast doesn’t have paws, sorry :,) no ranking this time

4. How did the idea or concept of Promises to Keep come around, and how did it all begin?

Noh: We just kinda started talking about making a VN, and then did it. The story is loosely based on real-life experience. December 2022 there was a huge blizzard where I live that shut the whole city down for a week. I lost power and had to stay with some neighbors, just like in the game. The collection of cute furry boys, is, of course, not based on real events, lmao. If I remember correctly, we agreed on premise first, then brainstormed characters, then started writing.

5. Were the characters created for this VN specifically or did some of them (or all) already exist beforehand?

Pom: Everyone was created for this VN except for Rofi! Rofi is an OC of mine who was never brought to life (but existed in my head) until the VN came about. He acts like me in a lot of ways :3

Noh: The characters were some of the first things we really nailed down, cause we knew they’d be the most important part of the game. We specifically wanted an unconventional cast, with species and character archetypes not typically represented in VN’s. Hopefully we succeeded.
